Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in engineering, a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Aviation background and aircraft interior experience are required.
  • Employees working on programs subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations must qualify as a US Person, defined as a US Citizen, a Permanent Resident who does not work for a foreign company, foreign government, foreign governmental agency or organization, or a political asylee.
  • Strong Computer Aided Drafting/Design skills in both 3D, with Inventor preferred, and 2D AutoCAD are required.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard practices, fasteners, materials, and component parts, including the ability to search for and specify new supplied parts, is required.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methodologies, design-for-manufacturing and assembly, costing, and material selection is required.
  • Knowledge of industry design, documentation, and drafting standards, including ANSI Y14.5, is required.
  • Understanding of mechanical motion modeling and weight and balance analysis is required.
  • Ability to check engineering drawings for fit, form, and function is required.
  • Ability to meet strict schedules, budgets, and technical solution expectations with minimal margin of error is required.
  • Ability to adapt to tailored processes designed for prototype engineering rather than production engineering is required.
  • Knowledge of mechanical disciplines including lower and upper attached structure, monuments, ceilings, sidewalls, flooring, placards, and OEM modifications is required.
  • Knowledge of avionics, including locating, provisioning, and installing line-replaceable units and electrical equipment, is required.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally as part of an established and growing team is required.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, time-management, and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, use hands to lift or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds, and use close/color vision to adjust focus is required.
  • Ability to travel as required and work outside core business hours as required.
Responsibilities
  • Create complex designs of VIP aircraft interiors and/or structures to meet customer criteria, quality standards, Federal Aviation Administration requirements, budgets, and project schedules using Computer Aided Drafting/Design tools.
  • Design complex mechanical aircraft interior furnishings and/or structures such as ceilings, sidewalls, original equipment manufacturer modifications, flooring, floor structures, and ceiling grids.
  • Analyze and interpret subsystem and project specifications.
  • Select materials for mechanical designs based on structural needs and material specifications.
  • Evaluate trade-offs in materials, hardness, composites, treatments, coatings, and other selections to meet design objectives, working with material suppliers and material testing when needed.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers to optimize designs for reduced part counts, reduced manufacturing costs, reduced assembly errors, and other factors affecting production cost and quality.
  • Interpret and apply bills of materials, assembly concepts, and fabrication specifications.
  • Ensure designs meet customer criteria, quality standards, and Federal Aviation Administration requirements.
  • Adhere to budgets and project schedules.
  • Provide design guidance and feedback to other engineering personnel.
  • Maintain current knowledge of mechanical design practices, materials, components, and software design tools, and independently find or create solutions to problems requiring research, resourcefulness, and creativity.
  • Work with the Design Department to develop aesthetic product designs that meet market needs and customer acceptance.
  • Provide liaison engineering support.
  • Support preparation of test setups and development of test reports.
  • Maintain regular attendance, arrive on time, work full shifts, and perform other assigned duties.

  • Three-dimensional Computer Aided Drafting/Design experience with Inventor is preferred.
