Requirements
  • Must have minimum of five year's experience in construction, carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, or HVAC.
  • Must have demonstrated experience, proficiency, and expertise (or license) in one or more of the above areas.

Responsibilities
  • Consistently applies infection control policies/practices.
  • Understands and practices standard precautions for self and others in patient care activities.
  • Understands and practices appropriate disease-specific isolation.
  • Appropriately handles and disposes of sharps (i.e., needles, etc.) as required.
  • Ensures sterility of supplies and equipment.
  • Meets population/age specific competencies per unit specific addendum.
  • Attends department specific education/training, in-services, and staff meetings.
  • Attends mandatory in-services/educational/training activities.
  • Submits all required paperwork on time.
  • Verifies, by signature/initials, attendance at staff meetings or reading of staff meeting minutes.
  • Participates in department specific performance improvement project.
  • Actively assists in unit performance improvement monitoring.
  • Knows and understands PDCA Model for Performance Improvement Program.
  • Demonstrates understanding of performance improvement principles in job performance.
  • Provides a safe and sanitary environment for patients, family, staff, and self.
  • Performs complex plumbing, electrical repair, steam fitting and general maintenance.
  • Services equipment by lubricating, cleaning, replacing parts, and making minor adjustments.
  • Performs building maintenance requiring carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC.
  • Operates and maintains repairing of boilers, refrigeration units, air conditioning units, ice machines electronic and pneumatic controls.
  • Understands and able to safely operate and repair all central plant equipment, including, but not limited to boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps and compressors.
  • Performs electrical installation and maintenance.
  • Understands the operation of electrical motors, controllers and related electrical equipment.
  • Is able to wire and install standard 110 and 220 volt outlets.
  • Understands refrigeration system and chilled water systems. Is able to vacuum out system, reclaim freon, and add freon to refrigeration systems.
  • Test runs emergency generators and understands the operation of transfer switch.
  • Performs plumbing installation and maintenance.
  • Understands and able to perform preventive maintenance of all equipment as assigned.
  • Performs preventive and routine maintenance responsibilities.
  • Initiates work requests for building and equipment repairs.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills in interpersonal interaction with patients, visitors, nurses, physicians, and other associates.
  • Accepts direction from Nursing Director and Nursing Care Manager on assigned unit.
  • Consistently communicates in a manner that demonstrates a positive and cooperative attitude.
  • Observes patient confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate and professional body language.
  • Completes any required reports legibly.
  • Exhibits the service behaviors of AHMC-WHMC, resulting in exceptional hospitality service.
  • Demonstrates consistent positive and timely communication with internal and external customers.
  • Handles problems in a professional and proactive manner.
  • Demonstrates teamwork, cooperation and responsiveness.
  • Greets all people in a courteous and cordial manner.
  • Communicates effectively in person and on the telephone.

  • Handles and uses chemicals appropriately.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience within the healthcare industry preferred.
  • Computer skills preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
