Requirements
  • Possession of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Emergency Medical Technician certification to be obtained in 30 days of hire
  • West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services EMT Certification to be obtained in 30 days of hire
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations Course or ability to successfully complete within six (6) months of hire
  • Valid Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association Preferred) to be obtained in 30 days of hire
  • Successful completion of National Incident Management System within one month of hire
  • IS 700: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
  • IS 100: Introduction to the ICS System
  • IS 200: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
  • IS 800: National Response Framework, an Introduction
  • ITLS or Pediatric Advanced Life Support or equivalent (obtained within 6 Months of hire and renewed within 2 years of certification date)
  • PEPP certification (obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed within 2 years of certification date)
Responsibilities
  • Lead by example to ensure safety of Mon EMS personnel, patients, and the community and manage safety and incident response including vehicle safety, OSHA compliance, scene management, routine facilities maintenance
  • Ensure readiness of in-service vehicles, supplies, controlled substances, and equipment; document discrepancies and report to supervisory officer
  • Complete and review own patient care and billing documentation for completeness and accuracy prior to end of every shift
  • Respond to multi-patient incidents and act as an Incident Command System officer depending on complexity and jurisdiction
  • Provide excellence in patient care based on current EMS district/state protocols and QA/QI initiatives; adhere to internal benchmarks and evidence-based practices
  • Complete and manage mandatory education and competency programs by deadlines
  • Demonstrate problem solving with information gathering and planning; understand basic functions of other field providers
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, patients, other emergency responders, dispatchers, healthcare professionals and the public
  • Maintain documentation and QA measures including vehicle checks and reporting discrepancies
  • Maintain physical and mental readiness to operate in high-stress emergency environments
  • Understand and follow federal, state, and local laws and organizational policies
  • Cultivate civic responsibility and patient advocacy in community interactions
  • Demonstrate continuous learning and professional development through education and competencies
  • Perform patient care and transportation following EMS protocols and quality standards
  • Maintain readiness and readiness of equipment and supplies and ensure compliance with QA/QI initiatives
  • Operate under medical oversight and coordinate routine and interfacility transports
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate, Bachelor, or graduate level degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary educational institution
  • AMLS
  • GEMS (Geriatric Education) Certification
  • Other relevant prehospital certifications
  • Two years or more of experience as a field provider at the EMT level
