Requirements
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • Current Basic Life Support/CPR certification per policy.
  • Able to position and/or transfer an average adult patient, perform required patient-care duties, and withstand prolonged periods of standing.
  • Able to perform difficult manipulative skills such as intravenous insertion and intramuscular injections.
  • Able to work in environments involving exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue, contagious diseases, and radioactive or other potentially hazardous materials.
Responsibilities
  • Provide age-appropriate professional nursing care using the nursing process.
  • Perform vascular diagnostic and interventional, coronary diagnostic and interventional, and structural heart procedures in the Cath Lab.
  • Perform high-acuity electrophysiology studies and ablations, and permanent pacemaker and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator device implants.
  • Assess patients, analyze data to identify nursing problems, define individualized outcomes, develop interdisciplinary plans of care, implement interventions, and evaluate and revise patient progress.
  • Delegate patient-care tasks to licensed practical nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel based on job descriptions, individual capability, and patient needs.
  • Supervise licensed practical nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel, communicate patient status and performance expectations, and direct performance improvement.
  • Communicate relevant patient information to the health team, document patient care, ensure implementation of physician orders, and participate in interdisciplinary planning and decision-making.
  • Precept new nursing employees and/or nursing students.
  • Identify and resolve safety risks, participate in continuous quality improvement, and review and revise policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Make ethical decisions, advocate for patients and families, and follow the chain of command.
  • Develop an annual professional development plan and participate in community health initiatives and community organizations.
  • Contribute to nursing research activities, apply research findings in clinical practice, and participate in the nurse peer-review process.
