Subaru Uncharted and E-Outback achieve top safety ratings.

Subaru Uncharted and E-Outback achieve top safety ratings. Subaru's new Uncharted and E-Outback EVs have both received a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. The Uncharted - a medium-sized SUV closely related to the Toyota CH-R+ - received scores of 88% for adult occupant safety, 85% for child occupant safety, 80% for vulnerable road user safety, and 79% for its safety assist systems. The E-Outback (pictured) - an electric version of Subaru's existing Outback upper-medium car - received scores of 89% for adult occupant safety, 85% for child occupant safety, 80% for vulnerable road user safety, and 79% for its safety assist systems. The cars' passenger compartments remained stable in Euro NCAP's front offset crash test, with good leg protection for the driver and front seat passenger, regardless of size and sitting position. The cars scored maximum points in the side impact test, and their airbags performed well, while their front seats, head restraints and rear seats were found to give good protection against whiplash injuries. New model details. The Uncharted is set to be sold with three drivetrain options. A flagship all-wheel drive version will feature a 77kWh battery, 344PS and up to 292 miles of range. There will also be a front-wheel drive version, with the same 77kWh battery, delivering a range of up to 363 miles, and a front-wheel drive version with a smaller 57.7kWh battery, offering a range of 276 miles. The E-Outback will feature a 74.7kWh battery, 380PS and all-wheel drive, with a range of more than 279 miles. Both new models are expected to arrive in the UK this year. Content editor. Subaru, Mazda top safest used cars for teens in 2026: survey.

Subaru, Mazda top safest used cars for teens in 2026: survey. Two U.S. organizations have joined forces to come up with rankings based on good crash ratings and standard ADAS Published Jun 02, 2026 Article content * Consumer Reports and U.S. safety group IIHS update list of safest cars for teen drivers * The groups' rankings are weighted based on crash-test results and driver aids * Over four dozen models from various segments span the used- and new-car list Article content Teenagers can do a lot of things middle-aged adults cannot, including staying up all night and then attending class in the morning. These days, simply sleeping on the wrong pillow makes this author feel like he's fallen out of a fifth-storey window. One activity at which most adults excel, though? Driving. There's no real substitute for sheer experience behind the wheel, something that can only be collected over time. That's why parents and guardians everywhere are constantly on the heads-up for a safe and responsible used car on which young John or Jane can learn to drive. Article content Advertisement 1 Story continues below This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Article content We came up with just such a list back in January, but the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and Consumer Reports (CR) recently updated theirjoint list of what they feel are some of the safest secondhand cars for teens today, using measurable metrics like crash-test results and standard levels of advanced driver assistance systems. A raft of these machines can be had for under $10,000 - an amount that may be palatable for some first-time budgets. Article content Their list largely jives with ours, though we focused on winter performance, recommending vehicles like the Honda Civic and Mazda CX-5. (The latter also showed up in the IIHS-CR list, along with a bunch of other Mazdas and quite a few Subarus.) Larger sedans such as the Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima from the early to mid-2020s era are highly recommended by the groups, as are small crossovers like the Ford Bronco Sport and Subaru Forester. Some EVs appear, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. Advertisement 1 Advertisement 2 This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Article content Beyond specific makes and models, the list is full of other good advice, such as remembering to check for uncompleted recalls. Both the IIHS and CR recommend staying away from high-horsepower vehicles, for obvious reasons; avoiding minicars or anything weighing less than 2,750 pounds (because of performance or lack thereof in a crash); and steering clear of enormous pickup trucks or SUVs, which may be hard for a new driver to handle. Article content Some choices are technical outliers, such as the little Chevrolet Sonic that squeaks in thanks to a heavier-than-competitors curb weight; cars like the similarly sized Mitsubishi Mirage were excluded because of the 2,750-pound criteria. The entire list can be found here. Article content More in Awards and surveys Matthew Guy. Matthew Guy is a lifelong gearhead who writes automotive content for Canadian and American outlets. Japanese brand cuts $4000 off price of EVs.

Japanese brand cuts $4000 off price of EVs. By Dom Tripolone Updated May 13 2026 - 8:02pm, first published 8:00pm The expanding electric car price war has a new entrant. Subaru has just announced it has slashed thousands off the price of its Solterra and Trailseeker electric SUVs. The Solterra range now kicks off at $61,990 (before on-road costs) for the base variant, a reduction of $2000. The range-topping Touring grade gets a similar price cut to $67,990. Subaru already cut the price of the Solterra by $6000 late last year, while adding improvements. The regular Solterra has a driving range of 566km and the Touring 517km. Both use a dual-motor setup that delivers all-wheel-drive grip and pumps out 252kW and 337Nm. Subaru's big five-seat all-wheel-drive Trailseeker EV has had $4000 ripped off the price tag before it has even gone on sale. Subaru's website is still asking for expressions of interest for the Trailseeker. 2026 Subaru Trailseeker The Trailseeker now starts at $63,990, and rises to $69,990 for the Touring grade. It brings dual-motor grunt, which delivers Subaru's trademark all-wheel-drive grip. The two electric motors combine for 280kW and 537Nm (according to US versions), which allow it to sprint to 100km/h from a standstill in about 4.5 seconds. 2026 Subaru Trailseeker At its heart is a circa-75kWh battery that delivers 533km of driving range in the base version and 488km in the Touring. The prices are effective from May 14th and Subaru urges customers who have already placed an order to contact their dealer to see if the update applies to them. Subaru also announced the arrival of its Uncharted compact electric SUV, which is its cheapest EV at $59,990. 2026 Subaru Solterra All three SUVs have been co-developed with Toyota, with the bZ4X the equivalent of the Solterra and the Trailseeker and Uncharted are the twin to the bZ4X Touring and C-HR+ EV. The latter is not on sale in Australia yet, but has been confirmed for launch here in 2027. Subaru isn't alone in rushing to sell EVs, with Hyundai, Cadillac, Volvo and Zeekr all cutting the price of some of their electric cars in recent months. A wave of new Chinese models, such as the GWM Ora 5, MG4 Urban and BYD Atto 1, are all lowering the entry price to electric motoring, which is forcing other makers to be more competitive. 2026 Subaru Trailseeker Subaru's electric vehicle sales are flat compared to rivals, with the Solterra moving just 324 units through the first four months of the year. Tesla's Model Y is the best-selling EV so far this year with more than 6700 finding a new home. * Model, Old Price (before on-road costs), New Price (before on-road costs) * Subaru Uncharted, NA, $59,990 * Subaru Solterra, $63,990, $61,990 * Subaru Solterra Touring, $69,990, $67,990 * Subaru Trailseeker, $67,990, $63,990 * Subaru Trailseeker Touring, $73,990, $69,990

It's the type of rally that tests everything, technical sections, fast sections, a huge mix of conditions."
