About the Role

Cloudflare is looking for an Information Architect (IA) to drive the vision and strategies needed to build a next-generation user experience. As an IA, you will focus on organizing, structuring, and labeling content in an effective and sustainable way. You will lead change across the organization by working on cross-functional, strategic initiatives that are rooted in qualitative and quantitative user research. We are looking for someone with a passion for architecture principles, skilled in data modeling, and has experience with content governance.
Data and Research
- Performing content inventories and audits (both quantitative and qualitative) to diagnose issues with existing website content
- Assess current user-facing information structures across multiple platforms and surfaces
- Solicit and apply metrics, data, design research, user testing, customer support insights, and more to inform your decisions
- Incorporate data standards and implement governance model
- Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional/non-functional business requirements
- Use analytics to develop insights on the adoption and use of materials developed
Information architecture
- Create an information architecture that leads with user needs, including navigation/wayfinding, product adoption, setup, issue resolution, and seller growth
- Maintain blueprint of the information architecture, data integrations and controls aligned to the business strategy
- Define content structures (information architecture in the form of site map spreadsheets, taxonomies, content models, content relationship diagrams, etc.)
- Create content wireframes to help shape content types
Defining content processes
- Recommend editorial and publishing workflows, governance models, or editorial calendars for content contributors
- Lead content production efforts, including copywriting, copy editing, onboarding content contributors, and creating content briefs and copy decks
- Lead messaging exercises with clients, creating message hierarchies for different audiences or content types
- Develop and share taxonomies, metadata models, and classification schemas that internally unify siloed product, operations, and content teams
- Establish an ongoing process for managing and growing a sophisticated and flexible IA that adjusts to varying product lifecycles, user demands, and our needs
- Develop templates, process, and methods to scale IA efforts
Team collaboration and support
- Collaborate with design and product leaders as an advocate for unified, seamless user experiences based on sound, research-informed information content architecture principles
- Provide thought leadership, drive, and facilitate the right discussions with key partners to define and craft information and data in alignment to UX design principles to meet current and future business objectives.
- Understand UX fundamentals of product design, content design, and user research
- Define model and rationalize target state architecture, socialize with key stakeholders and conduct walkthrough
- Advocate and drive adoption of standard methodologies which demonstrates a strong bias for architecture principles balanced with tactical timelines, cost, and risks
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience working as an Information Architect
- 4+ years of experience working in a related field as a Content Designer, Product Designer, Taxonomist, or Researcher
- Previous experience working on a Content or UX Design team in all phases of the design process: qualitative and quantitative research, building a strategy, and executing.
- Familiarity with content authoring and design tools (Figma, Contentful, Github, Bitbucket, etc.)
- Experience engaging with a wide range of stakeholders across a company, its customers, and/or open-source communities.
- Strong interest and comfort with technical subject
- A portfolio demonstrating experience with Information Architecture
Compensation
Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.
- For Colorado-based hires and Washington hires: Estimated annual salary of $143,000 - $175,000.
- For New York City-based and California (excluding Bay Area): Estimated annual salary of $160,000 - $196,000.
- For Bay Area-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $168,000 - $206,000.
