ProRata.ai develops AI-powered tools for search, advertising, and content attribution aimed at compensating content creators when their work is used by generative AI. Its technology analyzes AI outputs to identify original sources and calculate proportional revenue sharing on a per-use basis, with a 50/50 split to content partners like publishers and music labels. Core products include Gist.ai, a consumer AI answer engine that uses licensed partner content to reduce hallucinations, and ProRata Ads, which creates and serves contextual ads using large language models. The company plans to license its attribution tech to other AI companies and marketplaces, seeking a fair, sustainable digital content economy where creators are paid for AI usage.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • June 2026 brought five publishers, including BuzzFeed and Sports Illustrated, to Gist Answers.
  • ProRata now claims over 500 licensed publications, expanding defensibility and answer quality.
  • February 2026 hires Michele Tobin and Peter Sloterdyk sharpen revenue, marketing, and advertiser execution.

What critics are saying

  • OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft already offer publisher marketplaces and answer products in 2026.
  • Revenue depends on publisher adoption; ProRata still needs traffic, ads, and recurring usage.
  • If courts bless fair-use scraping or platform-native answers, ProRata’s license model collapses.

What makes ProRata.AI unique

  • Bill Gross brings GoTo.com pricing DNA and publisher monetization credibility since 2024.
  • Gist Answers uses only licensed content and embeds inside publisher sites, not scraping.
  • ProRata’s attribution engine shares 50% revenue with contributing publishers and labels every answer.

Gist GEO launches to fix AI's brand blind spot, backed by $75M and the inventor of pay-per-click

Gist GEO, a subsidiary of ProRata founded by pay-per-click inventor Bill Gross, has launched a platform tracking how brands appear in AI-generated answers across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity. The service measures brand performance across six metrics including AI Mention Share and Share of Recommendations, feeding into four Brand Health dimensions updated weekly. Pricing ranges from $99 monthly for basic access to $349 for growth tier, with enterprise options available. All accounts start with a 14-day free trial. ProRata has raised over $75 million since its 2024 launch, including a $40 million Series B. Gross positions GEO as addressing the gap between traditional SEO visibility and AI visibility, where brands often don't know if AI assistants recommend, ignore or misrepresent them.
