Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Create a dynamic, learner-centered environment using varied teaching methods that support diverse student learning needs and are based on educational theory and evidence-based teaching and clinical practices.
  • Model reflective and critical thinking, coach and mentor students, confer with them about their progress, and assist them in developing learning plans to achieve course objectives.
  • Maintain and enhance competence in the subjects being taught.
  • Confer with colleagues to ensure course integrity across programs and the curriculum.
  • Prepare and review written examinations, papers, and student projects.
  • Notify the Course Manager about at-risk students and issues at clinical sites.
  • Supervise or teach clinical rotations as needed in acute, community, and laboratory settings, including internship and preceptorship courses.
  • Document student progress on appropriate forms.
  • Participate in Faculty Organization meetings.
  • Participate in College of Nursing Faculty meetings.
  • Participate in University or College committees as needed.
  • Provide service to the profession and community.
  • Participate in University and College of Nursing events according to attendance expectations.
  • Clarify the nursing curriculum and programmatic requirements for students.
  • Provide information that enables students to make appropriate academic decisions.
  • Increase student awareness of available educational resources.
  • Discuss student academic progress and progression toward educational goals.
  • Refer students to institutional and community support services when appropriate.
  • Forward relevant student information about needs and preferences that could influence policy setting and enhance the learning environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • A doctorate in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning is preferred.
  • Geriatric certification is preferred.
  • Teaching experience with diverse students at the baccalaureate or higher degree level is preferred.
  • Experience working with leadership in healthcare and academic institutions and community organizations is preferred.
