Responsibilities
  • Provide phlebotomy and phlebotomy-related services for all patients.
  • Validate or update patient demographic and other information in the BILH computer system for patients whose lab tests have already been ordered, and collect and accurately enter demographic information, insurance information, and lab test orders for other patients.
  • Collect specimens according to established procedures, including blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques, for all age groups.
  • Prepare collected specimens for transport by courier to a BILH laboratory.
  • Perform administrative and clerical duties necessary to open, operate, and close the Patient Service Center daily.
  • Assist with training, coaching, and mentoring Patient Service Center phlebotomists when requested by the Phlebotomy Supervisor.
  • Travel to additional Patient Service Centers and doctor’s office sites when needed.
  • Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Report to, receive training from, and take direction from the Phlebotomy Supervisor responsible for the assigned Patient Service Center.
  • Participate in laboratory quality assurance programs, competency assessments, and continuing education.
  • Provide services that meet the needs of patients and providers and help ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Perform other similar tasks requested by the Phlebotomy Supervisor or the Manager of BILH Phlebotomy Services.
Desired Qualifications
  • Basic familiarity with computer applications is preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology or another accredited agency is preferred.
  • Previous experience as a phlebotomist is preferred.
  • One or more years of previous experience working in laboratory Patient Service Centers is preferred.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
