More info NextGen Healthcare has been recognized by Healthcare Tech Outlook Magazine as the exclusive recipient of "Top Healthcare Practice Management Solutions 2026," based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry, and is also named among "Top Medical Practice Management Solutions," reflecting its broader leadership. This profile has been developed by the Healthcare Tech Outlook research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Srinivas Velamoor, PRESIDENT & CEO. NextGen Healthcare closing the gaps from access to payment. Follow NextGen Healthcare on: A denied claim can begin at the appointment desk. An eligibility detail missed during registration or an inaccurate charge may not surface until days later, after the work has already moved through several hands. By then, correcting the issue can mean another round of staff time, patient contact, payer follow-up and rework. NextGen Healthcare approaches practice management by keeping those handoffs connected. NextGen Enterprise PM brings scheduling, registration, billing and reporting into one administrative environment built on a single database and master patient index. The aim is not simply to automate isolated tasks. It is to keep information useful as a patient moves from appointment access to reimbursement. Continuity matters because practice operations are cumulative. Clean registration data can support eligibility checks and patient estimates. Accurate information can move into charge review with fewer corrections. A cleaner claim can reach the payer with less rework, while the financial record created along the way becomes useful to managers looking for patterns across locations or providers. Before the Visit Shapes What Follows NextGen starts the revenue cycle before care is delivered. Appointment scheduling can be configured around provider calendars, visit lengths, patient groups and waitlists, giving practices a more structured way to manage capacity across the enterprise. Eligibility verification sits close to that process. NextGen can connect with payer systems to confirm coverage and help practices estimate patient responsibility before the encounter. Patient-access tools extend the same workflow through self-scheduling, real-time waitlists, referral management and automated communication. Instead of making the front desk the sole point of coordination, routine access tasks can move through digital channels while staff handle exceptions. The operational effect shows up later. Coverage questions identified before the visit are less likely to become billing surprises. Registration information does not have to be recreated when the encounter becomes a claim. Patient responsibility can be discussed earlier, when there is still time to clarify an issue, rather than discover it after the balance is due. Catch Problems Before They Become Claims Clinical care creates charges, but not every charge should move directly into billing. NextGen's Charge Review Rules Engine sits between the EHR and practice management system, checking charge data against configurable and specialty-specific rules before it enters the revenue cycle. Straightforward charges can pass through automatically. Certain errors can be corrected without manual intervention, while exceptions that need judgment are routed to staff. NextGen's rules engine can eliminate 75 percent of manual charge-data review. The value is not automation for its own sake. Staff attention is reserved for the portion of the workload that actually needs review. Coding support, charge edits, audit visibility and specialty rules help reduce the chance that a preventable mistake travels into a claim and returns later as a denial. Administrative work changes when controls sit closer to the point where data is created. Instead of finding every problem at the end of the process, the practice can stop more of them before submission. A claim that leaves the organization with cleaner information requires fewer touches afterward and gives the payer less reason to send it back. Keep the Claim Moving Once a claim is ready, the workflow leaves the practice and enters a more complex network of payer transactions, acknowledgments, edits and payment status. NextGen connects that stage through billing automation and clearinghouse capabilities, including its preferred clearinghouse partnership with Waystar. Routine activity can continue without someone manually initiating every step. Claims, statements, eligibility requests and status inquiries can be scheduled, while electronic workflows help staff track where transactions stand. Claim attachments and coverage-detection capabilities add support for cases that need more than a standard submission. The financial side remains connected to the same operating flow. Practices can use patient estimates, payment tools, collection workflows and A/R reporting to manage balances without separating patient responsibility from the rest of the revenue cycle. A coverage issue found before the visit can shape both the conversation with the patient and the way the final account is managed. The connection matters for staff as much as it does for cash flow. Predictable transactions can move automatically, leaving people to focus on denials, exceptions, authorizations and accounts that need judgment. Automation changes which work reaches the team rather than simply adding another layer of software. Turn Daily Activity into Management Insight A practice-management system also creates an operational record of the business. NextGen Insights brings clinical and practice data into reporting views that can be examined by period, location, provider and transaction detail. The platform uses more than 400 automated data-quality checks to help maintain confidence in the information being analyzed. Because the reporting draws from connected workflows, managers can move from a high-level trend toward the transactions underneath it. * NextGen Healthcare connects the front office and financial back office so information gathered early in the patient journey remains useful through billing and payment. Greenville Rancheria Tribal Health provides an example of how that visibility can translate into operating discipline. After adopting NextGen Enterprise and using billing edits, the organization reported that average days in A/R fell to 13 within one year and remained there for almost three years. The result is specific to that organization, but it shows how cleaner workflows and better visibility can reinforce one another. NextGen's practice-management solutions also received the No. 1 position in Black Book Market Research's 2026 physician practice-management benchmarking for the ninth consecutive year. The recognition adds an external measure of how the platform performs against other practice-management solutions. Turning Connected Data into Action NextGen Healthcare's strength lies less in any one scheduling screen or billing feature than in what happens between them. Information collected at registration can support eligibility and cost estimation. Encounter data can pass through charge review before a claim is submitted. Payment activity can feed financial reporting, while the resulting information helps leaders identify where the workflow itself needs attention. A denied claim may still happen. What changes is how much of the preventable work can be caught earlier and how quickly the practice can see where friction is building. The platform follows the business of care from appointment access through reimbursement, reducing the need to rebuild information at each handoff and giving staff a clearer path from patient encounter to financial resolution. Management Srinivas Velamoor, PRESIDENT & CEO, NextGen Healthcare Description NextGen Healthcare provides practice management technology for ambulatory organizations, combining scheduling, eligibility, billing and financial analytics with charge review, clearinghouse connectivity, patient access and reporting tools to manage administrative and revenue-cycle workflows across daily practice operations.
