Requirements
  • Certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.
  • Orthopaedics experience required.
  • Strong clinical and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, develop and lead programmatic initiatives and foster a positive work environment.
  • Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in related field and eight years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage all Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, payroll, and coverage.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, performance management and professional development.
  • Maintain compliance with credentialing, HIPAA, and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure all required licensure and certifications for APPs are kept up to date.
  • Work with the Vice Chair of Advanced Practice Providers to drive quality, service, benchmarking standards and coverage that align with the Department of Orthopaedics and Yale Medicine standards and goals.
  • Manage discretionary budgets, compensation alignment, and benchmarking productivity.
  • Serve as liaison with Human Resources and hospital leadership.
  • Represent the department at management, quality, and strategic meetings with stakeholders from the Aligned Clinician Enterprise and hospital system(s).
  • Respond to patient complaints related to care given by APPs and report patient satisfaction concerns to appropriate leadership and Patient Relations.
  • Lead or assist with deployment of new initiatives as directed by the Vice Chair of APPs.
  • Lead new hire orientation and training.
  • Mentor and support professional development.
  • Provide procedural training and supervision.
  • Promote continuing education opportunities and support career advancement.
  • Ensure APPs competency and compliance with HIPAA, Continuing Medical Education, regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Provide opportunities for APPs to participate in Departmental Grand Rounds and Mid-level Provider Grand Rounds.
  • Promote the dissemination of the newest clinical evidence in literature to improve patient care.
  • Provide direct patient care as assigned.
  • Perform approved procedures within scope.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant documentation.
  • Build and optimize clinic templates for APP independent visits, shared visits, post-operative pathways, injection clinics, and urgent slots.
  • Coordinate APP utilization across ambulatory and operating rooms to meet demand; adjust staffing by volume and seasonality.
  • Reduce operational friction including rooming/workflow standards, order sets, preoperative optimization, discharge processes, and prior authorization pathways.
  • Complete required training and certifications.
  • Attend departmental and health system meetings.
  • Maintain professional conduct in compliance with Yale standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years inpatient/outpatient Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse experience.
  • Leadership or educational experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience as a supervisory/manager in a clinical setting.
