Requirements
  • A B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or an Associate Degree in CAD/Drafting Technology combined with relevant industry experience.
  • 2–4+ years of professional CAD modeling and drafting experience using SolidWorks in a product development, hardware startup, or manufacturing environment.
  • Foundational understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards, tolerance stack-up analysis, standard fastener hardware, and common fabrication processes including sheet metal, CNC machining, and welding.
  • Exposure to or practical experience with SolidWorks PDM; 3D Experience is preferred for revision management, data vaulting, and the engineering release lifecycle.
  • Strong spatial visualization skills and physical intuition regarding real-world clearances, fastener access, and assembly constraints.
  • Accuracy with dimensional callouts, tolerance boundaries, fastener selections, drawing notes, and bill-of-materials structure.
  • Effective communication across mechanical engineering, manufacturing facilities, assembly technicians, and procurement vendors.
Responsibilities
  • Create, modify, and manage parametric 3D models, complex mechanical assemblies, and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Transform top-level mechanical architecture, design concepts, and skeleton models into detailed 3D CAD models of machined components, sub-assemblies, welded structures, and sheet metal components.
  • Generate fully dimensioned manufacturing drawings with orthographic projections, detailed cross-sections, surface finish ratings, weld callouts, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
  • Perform part-level and assembly-level tolerance stack calculations to ensure proper fit, alignment, and fastener clearance during production assembly.
  • Build and maintain complex top-level assemblies; perform dynamic clearance checks, interference detection, motion checks, and mass properties analysis to ensure physical fit, form, and function.
  • Generate and maintain multi-level Bills of Materials; manage file versioning, check-in/check-out workflows, part number creation, and Engineering Change Orders or Engineering Change Notices within SolidWorks PDM and 3D Experience.
  • Interface with machine shops, fabrication vendors, and internal technicians to optimize designs for CNC milling and turning, sheet metal forming, laser or waterjet cutting, and efficient prototype assembly.
  • Collaborate with mechanical systems engineers and manufacturing teams to translate design concepts into production-ready models while applying Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly principles.

Airloom Energy is building wind power technology with a modular and scalable turbine system designed for utility-scale electricity at lower cost. Its first large project is a pilot in Wyoming featuring a turbine design that is different from traditional wind turbines. Two Santa Fe companies receive over $1.5 million in state energy awards. The City of Santa Fe Economic Development Division announced on July 16 that two local companies have received more than $1.5 million through the State of New Mexico's Advanced Energy Awards for their work in next-generation energy technologies. Molten Salt Solutions was awarded $900,000 for research and development to expand production of enriched lithium, a material used in fusion energy and other carbon-free systems. Liberty Fusion received a $625,000 research and development award to advance its modular fusion energy system, building on technology originally developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Combined, the awards are intended to help accelerate commercialization of technologies that could support domestic energy production, manufacturing, and national competitiveness. "Today's announcement is another reminder that Santa Fe is home to entrepreneurs tackling some of the world's most important challenges," said Johanna Nelson, Director of the City of Santa Fe Economic Development Division. "We're grateful to the state for investments that help innovative companies grow here in New Mexico." Other recipients this year include Airloom Energy, which will partner with Kit Carson Electric Cooperative on a planned 5-megawatt wind energy demonstration project aimed at expanding advanced energy innovation across North Central New Mexico. The City of Santa Fe said it supports businesses creating high-quality jobs and advancing new technologies as part of efforts to shape New Mexico's innovation economy.
