Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the unit or department.
  • Maintains a current State of Alabama registered nurse license or valid enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact multistate registered nurse license.
  • Maintains current Basic Life Support or Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Trauma Nursing Core Course certifications are required for certain areas; Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is required for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Responsibilities
  • Assess patients’ needs and develop or revise individualized plans of care based on patient needs and responses.
  • Build respectful relationships with all team members and customers while respecting diversity.
  • Serve as a patient and family advocate.
  • Provide care appropriate to the ages of patients served on the assigned unit or department.
  • Serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/or nurse clinician.
  • Communicate and collaborate with medical staff and the interdisciplinary team to plan and manage the unit or department effectively.
  • Serve as a role model for staff and support the hospital and nursing department’s goals and strategies.
  • Apply knowledge of growth and development across the life span, assess data reflecting patient status, and interpret information needed to identify age-specific patient requirements.
  • Coordinate care and delegate appropriately to other team members for a defined group of patients.
  • Document patient care, including patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety activities, consistently and in accordance with required and regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and use of patient care and unit equipment as defined by unit- or department-specific required skills.
  • Prioritize patient care continuously in accordance with evidence-based practice standards of care.
  • Identify and resolve problems effectively.
  • Delegate tasks and duties to healthcare team members according to patient needs and team members’ capabilities and qualifications.
  • Communicate appropriate information about patient conditions or unit concerns to other healthcare team members.
  • Provide a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
  • Demonstrate awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
  • Collaborate with the education department and nursing leadership team to transition and support new team members and students effectively.
  • Maintain reasonably regular and punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
