POSITION SUMMARY
This role is required to be in office 5 days a week.
The Director, Revenue and Financial Reporting will be responsible for all functions and requirements to ensure GAAP revenue is correct, that our SEC financials are compliant and that our group financial audit including SOX requirements are completed with clean results. Responsibilities will also include managing and mentoring the revenue team, preparing technical accounting memos for our auditors, reviewing material customer contracts to identify revenue issues, overseeing revenue reporting in Domo, improving and streamlining systems relating to revenue recognition in order to become more efficient, and analyzing revenue from several different perspectives to determine accuracy of recognized revenue, trends, and concerns. Additionally, this role will oversee deferred revenue and review all necessary reconciliations and reporting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Revenue Recognition & Compliance
- Oversee the company’s revenue recognition process to ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), including the review of complex customer contracts and identifying potential revenue recognition issues;
- Prepare technical accounting memos for auditors, providing clear justifications and explanations for revenue recognition decisions, as well as other technical accounting topics as needed;
- Ensure that SEC financial filings (e.g., 10-K, 10-Q) are accurate, complete, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements related to revenue reporting.
Financial Audit & SOX Compliance
- Manage the relationship with external auditors, ensuring that audits related to revenue recognition and technical accounting are executed smoothly and efficiently;
- Oversee SOX controls related to revenue and ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations;
- Review deferred revenue schedules and other related reconciliations, ensuring proper classification and timing.
Team Leadership & Mentoring
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of revenue accountants, providing guidance on technical accounting issues, professional development, and career growth;
- Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the revenue team.
Revenue Reporting & Analysis
- Oversee revenue reporting processes in systems such as Domo, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery of key financial metrics;
- Analyze revenue from multiple perspectives (e.g., historical performance, trends, customer-specific issues) to identify discrepancies, emerging trends, or potential concerns that could impact recognized revenue;
- Develop and implement systems to improve revenue recognition efficiency, with a focus on automation and process optimization.
Deferred Revenue Management
- Ensure proper management and reconciliation of deferred revenue accounts and associated reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and business requirements;
- Review and approve reconciliations for deferred revenue, ensuring timely and accurate adjustments.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent professional certification required;
- 8+ years of experience in revenue accounting, technical accounting, or financial reporting, with at least 4+ years in a leadership role;
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, ASC 606, and other technical accounting standards related to revenue recognition;
- Experience with SEC reporting requirements (10-K, 10-Q) and familiarity with public company financial filings;
- Proven track record managing financial audits, including SOX compliance and audit coordination;
- Expertise in revenue reporting and financial systems (e.g., Domo, ERP systems, or other revenue recognition software);
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop a team of accountants and collaborate across departments;
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to navigate complex revenue recognition challenges;
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical accounting concepts to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working in a SaaS, technology, or subscription-based business model is highly desirable;
- Familiarity with international accounting standards (IFRS) is a plus;
- Proficiency with business intelligence tools (e.g., Domo, Tableau, Power BI) and experience in automating financial reporting processes.
