Requirements
  • Be a native or highly fluent speaker of Russian, with familiarity with grammar structure and vocabulary and the ability to communicate this knowledge to others.
  • Pass testing of grammatical, oral, and writing skills in Russian and be vetted by faculty in the intended language program.
  • Complete required training sessions.
  • Be available for short shifts, typically no more than two hours per day, with weekly commitments set between six and eight hours; some Sunday hours may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Support the work done by the faculty in the Department of World Languages and Cultures at American University.
  • Host staff and resources to enhance language courses offered on campus and facilitate students' language learning experience.
  • Welcome students and visitors.
  • Help students schedule, reschedule, and attend coaching appointments.
  • Ensure resources are allocated to their designated locations and that items are in good working order.
  • Collaborate with teammates and help them when needed.
  • Present one proposal for a Russian-language cultural event each semester.
  • Assist with tasks as needed when not coaching.
  • Continue to sharpen knowledge in teaching Russian.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience with teaching and/or training.
