Requirements
  • You want to make a difference: The software, firmware, and hardware you build will result in real-world impact-helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely
  • You build for scale: Samsara already has more than 2.3 million IoT devices deployed globally with customers that depend on our technology and look forward to the new solutions brought about by our engineers' innovation. You may work on a mature product that is operating at a large scale already or a product in the early stages that is still being developed
  • You believe customers are more than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers, and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better customer outcomes
  • You crave technical ownership: The development of our Connected Operations Cloud technology has only just begun and offers a range of technical challenges that will sharpen your skills and provide opportunities for rapid career growth
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in engineering, or similar technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in hardware development
  • 5+ years of experience dealing in regulatory processes
  • Demonstrated experience with U.S. and international product compliance regulations (e.g. FCC, CE, NOM, IFETEL) and product safety standards (e.g. UL, C1D2, ATEX)
  • Experience managing multiple projects with industry certifications (BT-SiG, PTCRB, GCF) and carrier certifications (ATT TRENDI, Verizon)
  • Hands-on experience with Cellular (3G, 4G, LTE, etc.) and wireless technologies like WLAN, BT, 802.11
  • Experience handling product compliance, submitting products for global approvals and obtaining certifications
  • Experience and success delivering in a fast-paced development environment
  • Knowledge of electronics and mechanical design and safety
  • Experience overseeing all product-safety aspects of a device's design from the initial concept to worldwide sale
  • Experience documenting technical requirements extracted from standards
  • Experience working with third-party labs or similar
  • Ability to remain flexible, calm, and creative in the face of uncertainty
Responsibilities
  • You aren't willing to put in the work: The opportunity we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious, and innovative ideas for our customers
  • You have nothing more to learn: Every Samsarian has a growth mindset and believes that what got us here won't get us there
  • You aren't a team player: Working on our Samsara Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we're all racing toward our connected operations vision, and we intend to win-together
  • Collaborate with engineering, JDM partners, regulatory bodies, and external labs to obtain the applicable regulations and standards for new and existing products
  • Manage suppliers and testing labs to draft compliance requirements, monitor test status, and drive tests to completion
  • Partner with JDMs to drive critical compliance deliverables to enable project completion
  • Work with the hardware team and testing labs to review for safety and compliance considerations
  • Ensure product requirement documents are clearly defined and well-understood across engineering teams (firmware, electrical, mechanical)
  • Track progress and cost. Communicate, and escalate issues as appropriate throughout the development cycle
  • Demonstrate ability to understand changes during the product life cycle and its impact on product certifications
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
