Requirements
  • At least 7 years of prior experience in a marketing or communications environment, preferably in an agency, creative corporate client, or nonprofit organization.
  • Proficiency in design, composition, and production using Mac systems, Microsoft software, Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and other layout programs, along with working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Experience devising production schedules, estimating and tracking project expenses and timelines, and taking direct control of project components with minimal or no supervision.
  • Experience and skill in time and project management, independently interpreting client needs based on project nature, budget, and objectives, and following projects through to completion.
  • Experience making bold aesthetic decisions and executing sophisticated visual strategies.
  • Understanding of multimedia design and experience building and organizing files for print, digital design, web-based platforms, site creation, and email marketing.
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles, practices, and design tools, including end-to-end design production, layout, typography, print specifications, and adherence to an established style guide.
  • Knowledge of user experience and user interface principles and best practices.
  • Knowledge of printing and production processes and local vendors' performance and pricing.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external constituents and respond to design-related strategies, inquiries, and concerns.
  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to assess nuances and apply judgment in ambiguous situations.
  • Advanced command of English and excellent written communication skills for preparing, proofreading, and editing materials for correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and syntax.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, accuracy, deadline management, discretion, and the ability to complete multiple assignments within similar timeframes.
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate as part of a team, mentor staff, communicate verbally, and practice active listening.
  • Ability to solve problems, make corrections, offer appropriate solutions, determine resources, and gather information needed to complete projects.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation is required for continued employment.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a strategic visual leader and subject matter expert for Health Sciences Development.
  • Translate complex stories, concepts, and strategies into distinctive print and digital communications appropriate to the audience, content, and UCLA Health brand.
  • Execute refined design elements and complex, high-quality visual communications.
  • Provide recommendations and feedback that support fundraising strategies.
  • Mentor staff and guide external vendors.
  • Design high-impact communications for transformational donor gifts.
  • Develop and promote creative solutions for fundraising communications.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques and applying graphic design to fundraising materials.
  • Prior experience with Blackbaud CRM or other fundraising databases.
  • Working knowledge of UCLA, its organization, structure, and the roles and responsibilities of its academic and administrative units.
  • Knowledge of UCLA icons, history, and graphics.
