Tenure faculty (regardless of rank) - persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member’s tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus; obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice. These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.

Position Overview

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Equine Surgery. The successful candidate will join a distinguished equine surgery and sports medicine program that includes six ACVS diplomates and three surgery residents, in addition to internal medicine, emergency/critical care, and ambulatory services. The equine services are supported by world-class ancillary services with dedicated large animal anesthesia and radiology technicians as well as a theriogenology service.

Tenure-track faculty typically have a 50% commitment to clinical service and clinical teaching with the remainder devoted to didactic and laboratory teaching, and to developing research/scholarship, including collaboration with other scientists, advising of graduate student and resident research, and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Clinical service percentages are dependent on the career trajectory of the applicant. Opportunitiesfor faculty to develop collaborative research with the Department of Veterinary Biosciences and Veterinary Preventive Medicinewithin the college of veterinary medicine as well as Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and main campus are present. In addition, the interested faculty membercanintegrate with the College’s emerging signature programs, Opportunities for independent or shared laboratory space to conduct bench top focused research are available. Faculty are also expected to be involved in professional and community outreach, continuing education, committee service, and curriculum development.

The Equine Surgery Service is located in the Galbreath Equine Center with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including a 12,000 sq. ft. equine performance arena, digital radiography, ultrasonography, fluoroscopy, 128-slice CT, a 3 Tesla MRI, nuclear medicine, an interventional radiology suite, locking compression plates, arthroscopy, endoscopy, laparoscopy, standing surgery rooms, three surgery suites, and in-house farrier services.

A priority of our equine section is maintaining a team atmosphere and working together both in clinics and in teaching. Performance Objectives

TEACHING DUTIES

• Clinical, didactic, and laboratory teaching of professional students, residents and interns inthe Equine Surgery Service, in conjunction with the diagnosis and treatment ofpatients presented to The OSU Veterinary Medical Center.

CLINICAL SERVICE AND OUTREACH DUTIES

• All aspects of patient care associated with an Equine Surgery practiceincluding: patient management, client care, communication with referring DVMs,consulting with colleagues, medical record keeping, professional development, andparticipation in public relations activities.

RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY DUTIES

• Use of scheduled off-clinic time for preparing teaching materials, conducting research,

writing for publication, and other scholarly activities.

• Tenure track faculty are expected to meet the criteria established in the college’s Research Metrics document for their level of research appointment.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS

• Model and promote a culture of collegiality, professional citizenship, and collaboration in allacademic endeavors to facilitate an excellent workplace atmosphere conducive to effectivelearning, scholarly achievement, and a high level of job satisfaction.

• Adhere to external, university, college, VMC, and department policies, procedures, and

guidelines.

Education and Experience Requirements

Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree. The candidate must have completed an ACVS or ECVS large animal residency and be board-certified or board eligible. An advanced degree or equivalent research experience is desirable for tenure-track candidates.
