Requirements
- A Master's degree and/or Doctor of Nursing Practice from an accredited school of nursing is required.
- Completion of an accredited nurse practitioner program in the area of specialty is required.
- Clinical skills in the area of certification are required.
- Advanced research knowledge, including interpretation, utilization, and conduct, is required.
- General computer knowledge and the capability to use a computer are required.
- Ability to incorporate theoretical concepts and advanced clinical skills into practice with patients, families, and interdisciplinary health care team members is required.
- Analytical ability to diagnose patients and develop and implement short-term and long-term management plans for acute and chronic health conditions is required.
- Advanced interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with members of the interdisciplinary health care team are required.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with patients and health care personnel is required.
- Ability to function effectively in a fluid, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment is required.
- Current Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner licensure in Maryland is required.
- Current Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the area of practice from the State of Maryland and the appropriate accrediting national body is required.
- Specialty certification must match the population served.
- Basic Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, and STABLE certifications are required.
- Two years of related clinical nursing experience are required.
- Ability to operate patient care equipment, computers, and general office equipment is required.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate and coordinate programs involving hospital inpatients, outpatients, families, community members, and hospital and university employees by providing evidence-based care based on the nursing process, policies, procedures, and protocols of Johns Hopkins Hospital.
- Provide direction to and manage other team members to promote quality, safety, and excellence in care.
- Work collaboratively with and provide leadership for a multidisciplinary health care team to support program initiatives that promote quality, safety, and excellence in care.
- Participate in promoting and identifying clinical, financial, and operational quality improvement initiatives that support, protect, and promote the specialty area.
- Initiate and participate in research activities relevant to the specialty area.
- Implement initiatives in the specialty area as directed by nursing and medical leadership.
- Foster a clinical environment of service excellence.
- Work rotating 12-hour day and night shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Manage a daily caseload of 5 to 10 patients.
