Requirements
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Commerce or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of academic training and relevant professional experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, or growth investing, including fund-level deal-making, investment underwriting, structuring, business and legal negotiations, and execution.
  • Expertise in venture capital fund structures, limited partnership agreements, governance frameworks, and policy-driven investment programs.
  • Experience leading complex negotiations and managing multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously.
  • Significant experience serving on limited partner advisory committees, boards of directors, or equivalent governance bodies.
  • Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships involving fund managers, institutional investors, government representatives, and senior executives.
  • Strong understanding of the Canadian venture capital ecosystem and an established network of industry relationships.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong strategic and investment judgment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management capabilities.
  • Ability to align operational execution with broader policy, program, and organizational objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Lead complex business and legal negotiations with fund managers and external stakeholders to execute program delivery, including fund investments.
  • Provide strategic oversight of portfolio investment activities, ensuring alignment with policy objectives, portfolio construction considerations, and market dynamics.
  • Provide senior investment judgment and guidance on fund performance, risk management, and portfolio development.
  • Serve as BDC's representative on portfolio funds' limited partner advisory committees and other governance bodies.
  • Monitor fund performance, governance, and compliance with fund agreements and program requirements.
  • Provide strategic insight and constructive challenge to support strong governance practices and enhance fund outcomes.
  • Guide fund managers on governance and operational best practices to strengthen the long-term sustainability of the venture capital ecosystem.
  • Lead team meetings and operational processes, ensuring effective resource allocation, quality control, operational excellence, and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate execution of operational activities, including capital calls, distributions, reporting, and stakeholder deliverables.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and leadership to a team of Analysts.
  • Identify capability and capacity gaps, oversee recruitment and onboarding activities, and promote knowledge sharing and best practices across the team.
  • Provide strategic input into the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of current and future government investment programs.
  • Respond to complex and time-sensitive requests from internal and external stakeholders while maintaining a high standard of service and professionalism.
  • Oversee the preparation and dissemination of quarterly and annual reporting, performance dashboards, and stakeholder communications.
  • Ensure high standards of quality, consistency, accuracy, and timeliness across reporting outputs and program deliverables.
  • Build and maintain relationships with fund managers, institutional investors, ecosystem stakeholders, and government partners.
  • Represent BDC Capital and Government Funds at industry conferences, panels, events, and stakeholder forums.
  • Monitor venture capital trends, market developments, and emerging opportunities to support strategic decision-making.
  • Support and lead thought leadership initiatives, market studies, and research projects that generate insights from government investment programs and portfolio activities.

Launch alum raises $1.6M for AI-powered health app Tempo

Toronto's The Wellness Company (TWC) has secured nearly $1.6 million CAD in seed funding to develop consumer health applications. The round was led by BDC Capital's Seed Venture Fund, with participation from BKR Capital, Launch, and angel investors. Founded by Presh Dineshkumar and Dray Williams, TWC operates as a product studio creating health-focused mobile apps. Helcim raises $53M at $250M valuation as RBC, BMO sell Moneris to US buyer

Fondaction and BDC invest in Icentia to accelerate cardiovascular diagnostic tech rollout

Fondaction and the Business Development Bank of Canada have invested in Icentia, a Québec medical technology company.
