Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED certificate is required.
  • An active license from the New Mexico Board of Dental Healthcare with dental radiography certification is required.
  • CPR certification must be obtained within the first six months of hire and maintained.
  • Ability to follow dental clinical procedures and protocols and applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines.
  • Ability to prepare, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot dental equipment and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of sterile procedures, radiation safety procedures, supplies and inventory control, planning and scheduling techniques, patient evaluation and triage procedures, records maintenance, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately and operate computers, office machines, medical equipment, and basic laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds and stand or walk for more than four hours per day.
Responsibilities
  • Provide chairside assistance to dentists and dental hygienists during operative, preventive, periodontal, endodontic, prosthetic, and oral surgical procedures.
  • Prepare, sterilize, organize, and set up dental equipment and instruments according to clinic guidelines and standards.
  • Monitor and maintain compressors, evacuator systems, radiographic developing equipment, sterilizers, and light-curing units according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Expose and process dental radiographs according to provider orders and assist with radiation-safety procedures and protocols.
  • Follow federal, state, and institutional regulations, guidelines, policies, and standards for dental clinical services.
  • Order and maintain dental clinic supplies, materials, and inventory.
  • Process dental clinic patients, perform telephone triage, conduct patient interviews, and obtain prior approvals from third-party payors.
  • Maintain dental laboratory slips and create and maintain dental records.
  • Prepare instruments for sterilization and storage in trays.
  • Educate patients about prevention and control of oral diseases using teaching aids.
  • Contact patients by telephone regarding return visits.
  • Take and pour up dental impressions under the direction of a dentist.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Graduation from an ADA-recognized certificate program.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish ability.
  • Work experience directly related to the specified duties and responsibilities.
