Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of instrumentation and controls equipment in support of a University Utilities Plant or similar industrial environment as described in the essential functions.
Responsibilities
  • Perform technical duties of evaluating, calibrating, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and testing functions for campus utility meters, transmitters, process control valves and auxiliary control systems, and other monitoring equipment for electric power and chill water metering, distribution and generation systems.
  • Adapt and adhere to changes on operating procedures, new equipment, and related systems. Aid in the collection, review, and approval pertinent data, inspections, personnel activities, and plant facilities as necessary. Identify solutions for unique conditions, problems, and deficiencies while ensuring compliance with best maintenance practices in instrumentation. Submit notes and reports on tasks being worked on.
  • Work in compliance with UEM safety policies and procedures, standards of workmanship, and Instrumentation safety standards. Troubleshoots system problems following detailed operational and maintenance procedures. Reads and interprets system blue prints.
  • Performs journey-level work in the designing, installation, maintenance and operation of all pneumatic and digital instrumentation and control systems. Coordinates commissioning of control systems on new or renovation projects. Accuracy required in all phases of work. Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Monitors, recommends modifications, repairs and installs all components for both pneumatic, PLC, SCADA, and DDC systems. Assists maintenance engineers with technical issues. Informs appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies as related to equipment and corrects as necessary. Completes work orders as required using automated systems.
  • Uses hand tools and electrical test equipment to troubleshoot control systems and associated mechanical and electrical systems. Performs work from written or oral instructions, specifications, blueprints, or wiring diagrams.
  • Abides by all University and UEM safety policies and procedures, takes required safety training, and identifies and report safety hazards. Performs work tasks in a safe manner, wears appropriate personal protective equipment, and reports near misses and incidents.
  • Abides by and enforce Utilities and Energy Management's set of core values: Safety, Respect, Integrity, Reliability, Teamwork, and Excellence. Work effectively from a remote office or on campus. Drive university vehicle or cart. Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned. Attends staff meetings, safety training or meetings, and plant operation and maintenance training courses. Required to carry University cell phone.
Desired Qualifications
  • Over 10 years experience in the operation and maintenance of instrumentation and controls equipment in support of a University Utilities Plant or similar industrial environment as described in the essential functions.
  • Associate degree in a technical field. Graduation from an accredited college level program in Industrial Instrumentation or related studies.
  • Certification as an Instrument Technician, Control System Technician, or related field. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills.
