  • Maturity and ability to assume responsibility for an assigned section within a work group of the organization’s Accounts Receivable
Responsibilities
  • Support management in the billing and collection of accounts receivable for inpatient and outpatient accounts
  • Cash application and reconciliation and/or resolving customer service issues
  • Account resolution, managing correspondence with payers, patients, and departments
  • Notify patient and/or guarantor of liabilities
  • Verify insurance benefits
  • Assist customers regarding billing questions
  • Review institutional and professional claims for appropriate use of procedure, modifiers and diagnostic codes
  • Resolve system edits and claim errors in a timely manner
  • Identify problem accounts and work towards timely resolution
  • Perform follow-up on patient accounts until benefits have been paid or resolved
  • Identify and perform follow-up necessary to bill primary claims to appropriate insurance companies
  • Update Medicare Common Working File if necessary
  • Work with clinical and other support departments to get corrections made to charges and claims
  • Perform post review of all payments applied to assigned accounts
  • Identify account overpayments, determine payer source to be refunded, and initiate refund requests
  • Prepare periodic credit balance reports for the assigned ledger
  • Attend in-services, classes, and meetings related to job functions
  • Investigate and respond to questions or requests for additional information from patients/guarantors, attorneys, and all other authorized parties
  • Utilize systems, tools, and department resources to achieve production and quality targets for resolution of patient accounts
  • Demonstrate proficiency in at least one or more of the following: Billing processes, Account Follow-Up processes, Denials management processes, Payment Posting and Cash Reconciliation processes, Self-Pay Processing / Customer Service
  • Ensure data integrity for the generation of patient statements, letters, and other correspondence
  • Initiate, reconcile, and maintain collection agency assignment of accounts meeting bad debt status
  • Post cash to accelerate cash flow including all necessary related data entry functions
  • Provide oversight to other representatives to ensure quality and efficiency of functions performed
  • Gather data, summarize and prepare reports for management and complete special projects as assigned
  • Ensure that incoming call volumes are processed expeditiously and communicates effectively in all patient interactions
  • Conduct in-person patient interviews for customer service needs
  • Ensure that incoming correspondence is processed expeditiously
  • Notify patient and/or guarantor of insurance Explanation of Benefits to patients
  • Assist customers regarding billing questions and ensure appropriate resolution of problems
  • Assess financial information for patients that are unable to pay balances in full and establish payment plans
  • Serve as contact for others regarding questions/account issue resolution
  • Communicate daily via the telephone or written communication with payers, patients, departments
Desired Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of healthcare or related experience preferred
  • Knowledge and general understanding of medical coding systems preferred

Registration open for grief education series. JACKSON, TN. - West Tennessee Healthcare, in partnership with Butterfly's Embrace, will host a two day grief education series featuring nationally recognized grief counselor and best-selling author Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt. The series will begin on Thursday, April 30, 2026, with an evening community event titled Tending to Your Broken Heart: Hope for Your Healing. This free event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lighthouse Church in Jackson. Dinner will be provided, and while attendance is free, registration is required. On Friday, May 1, 2026, the series will continue with a full-day educational workshop, The Art of Companioning a Mourning Heart: Caring Versus Curing, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the J. Walter Barnes Conference Center at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. This session is designed for healthcare professionals, caregivers, and others who support individuals experiencing grief. Continuing education credits will be available. Throughout both events, Dr. Wolfelt will share practical, compassionate approaches to understanding grief, helping attendees recognize the emotional, psychological, and social impact of loss while learning how to truly walk alongside those who are hurting. The sessions will also explore the important difference between "caring" and "curing," offering guidance on how to support others in meaningful and lasting ways.
