Requirements
  • An associate’s degree in veterinary technology and New York State licensure or eligibility to be licensed, with at least 1 year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a large mobile van to local shelters on workdays.
  • The ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with staff, students, technicians, veterinarians, and other groups and individuals while acting professionally.
  • The ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including prolonged standing and kneeling and lifting and restraining patients weighing more than 50 pounds.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • A strong interest in animal welfare and serving underserved communities.
  • Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series before or immediately after hire.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct client communication with professionalism and empathy while delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and support to their families.
  • Serve as the primary anesthetist for MSCP surgeries at local shelters, Primary Care Surgery, Small Animal Community Practice, Shelter Outreach Services, and College of Veterinary Medicine locations under the supervision of a faculty clinician.
  • Provide patient care, including Fear Free restraint, medical treatment, specimen collection, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Maintain records and enter client data in EzyVet, the electronic medical record system.
  • Provide instruction and support to veterinary students, interns, and externs in clinical and anesthetic techniques.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working in an animal shelter, high-quality high-volume spay/neuter clinic, and/or access-to-care clinic environment.
  • Previous experience instructing veterinary students or veterinary technician students.
  • Advanced training with specialty certification in an area of veterinary technology, such as anesthesia or emergency care.
  • Working knowledge of basic software programs such as Workday, Excel, EzyVet, and Pet Point.
