Requirements
  • A Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in a healthcare setting or physician's practice is required.
  • Experience in finance, insurance, insurance appeals, medication, and medical terminology is desired.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturer patient assistance programs, state and local assistance programs, insurance coverage limitations, requirements, eligibility, pharmacy formularies, prior authorization, coordination of benefits, community and national resources, ICD-9 codes, and determinants of financial need is required.
  • Understanding of pharmaceutical terminology, including brand, generic, dose, and route, is required.
  • Experience with Windows, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and intranet and internet navigation tools is required.
  • The ability to work in a self-directed manner while interacting with patients, prescribers, medical center faculty, and staff is required.
  • The ability to communicate clearly with the healthcare team is required.
  • Strong demonstrated communication skills are required.
  • The ability to organize work, maintain attention to detail, and manage multiple projects simultaneously is required.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate patient access to medications for inpatient and outpatient patients regardless of their ability to pay.
  • Work with patients and prescribers to obtain free and discounted pharmaceuticals and grant awards from pharmaceutical manufacturer patient assistance programs, nonprofit disease-based assistance programs, and state and local agencies.
  • Work with financial counselors and clinical staff to obtain appropriate clinical and financial information for patient assistance programs, disease-based assistance, and subsidy enrollments.
  • Provide patients and clinicians with accurate, up-to-date information regarding patient assistance programs, disease-based assistance, insurance eligibility, and federal and state subsidies.
  • Maintain a database containing accurate patient and patient assistance program information.
