The CDC Foundation is working with CDC and state and local authorities to provide surge staff to support surveillance, prevention, and response activities within the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) program and for select unfunded states. The CDC Foundation seeks candidates for a Data Analyst. The Data Analyst will plan, develop, and conduct analysis of overdose surveillance data and data related to overdose prevention efforts. The Data Analyst will work closely with Boston Public Health Commission OD2A grantee team and local partners across the health and social service sectors. The BPHC OD2A project furthers the agency mission of protecting, preserving and promoting the health and well-being of all Boston residents, with a focus on advancing racial justice and health equity. Boston OD2A features a surveillance component, centering on creating a data dashboard that will aggregate, analyze, and visualize population indicators and performance metrics. The Data Analyst will play a critical role in launching the dashboard, analyzing data, establishing pipelines, planning for the subsequent years, and broadly supporting OD2A data activities

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Public Health (Epidemiology), or related field.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year of full-time, professional work experience with data cleaning, data management and statistical analysis.
- Experience managing data projects and their implementation.
- Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of data. This includes writing SQL queries, applying mathematical analysis methods in R, and implementing machine learning processes and creating statistical analysis models.
- Ability to conduct descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analysis using primary or secondary data.
- Provide data-driven insights and solutions to help Boston OD2A monitor overdose trends in the City of Boston, identify new overdose prevention and harm reduction opportunities, improve overdose prevention and harm reduction services, and monitor progress on grant deliverables.
- Collaborate with the BPHC OD2A team and local partners to develop a Data Dashboard with indicators relevant to drug overdoses and their prevention.
- Proficiency in navigating computer systems; ability to learn new data systems quickly and to comply with data integrity and security to safeguard all personally identifiable information.
- Proficiency in statistical software R and SAS is required.
- Experience with geospatial data and analytics. Familiarity with geospatial data tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS and/or GeoDa.
- Ability to design, create prototypes, develop, deploy, and support Power BI or Tableau dashboards and reports. Capacity to contribute to other communication deliverables like flyers or social media graphics.
- Proficiency in Teams, Zoom, and Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with ability to be efficient and consistently deliver high-quality work under time constraints.

Responsibilities
- Play a leading role in managing the launch of the data dashboard deliverable
- Full life cycle activities of data analytics to include data cleaning, developing analysis and reporting capabilities, and linking databases and data sets.
- Continuously monitoring performance and quality control plans to identify improvements in models; perform related work as required.
- Perform data management activities, data cleaning and statistical analysis using SAS, R, SQL or other statistical programming language on OD2A Program data.
- Produce and analyze reports for the purposes of monitoring and evaluating overdose prevention activities, providing timely data analysis to support the Boston OD2A team, and to inform the public and BPHC-funded organizations.
- As needed, collaborate with agency and external groups, providing technical assistance in furtherance of the OD2A workplan, supporting surveillance and evaluation.
- Effectively communicate technical and general information regarding OD2A program data to a variety of audiences including agency leadership, policy makers, public health professionals, and the public. May include production of communication deliverables.
