Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of experience in landscaping and/or related fields including landscaping equipment operation, pre-use safety inspections and daily equipment maintenance, and towing and securing trailers
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements
  • Employee must have a valid New Mexico Class B Commercial Driver's License and maintain it while employed in this position
  • Employee must possess Traffic Control Supervisor certification within twelve (12) months of hire
  • Employee must be able to operate small power tools, hand tools and landscaping maintenance equipment
  • Employee must have knowledge of irrigation systems maintenance, testing and repair
  • Ability to understand and fully execute both oral and written instructions in English and perform work assignments with minimal supervision
Responsibilities
  • Performs labor intensive duties in the care of established landscaping including mowing, trimming, chipping, watering, digging, drip system repair, sprinkler repair, fence repair, maintenance of existing landscapes, planting, pruning, weeding, trash removal, snow removal and general upkeep of landscaped medians and trails within roadway landscaping and illegal dumping within Bernalillo County
  • Maintenance and cleanup of trails, roadway right-of-way, medians, and illegal dump sites within the county and as assigned
  • Responds to 311 complaints
  • Issues work orders and prioritize daily work activities
  • Operates on-and-off road vehicles such as skid steer, loader and attachments
  • Performs daily safety inspections on assigned vehicles and equipment
  • Reports and/or documents safety issues per departmental requirements including inspecting tire conditions, brakes, mechanical and engine fluid levels, water, brake lights, headlights, and other systems
  • Operates snow removal equipment
  • Operates vehicles under adverse weather conditions and schedules outside of standard hours
  • Instructs service workers in proper use of PPE, equipment, hand tools, weed eaters, power tools, and spray equipment
  • Responds to County declared emergencies
  • Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of low voltage landscaping irrigation systems repair
  • Knowledge of operation of front-end loader, skid steer loader and associated implements
  • Possession of Traffic Control Supervisor certification

A congressional delegation announced this month that Taos Pueblo, The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) and Bernalillo County will receive $39 million from the American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program to improve roads and construct transportation infrastructure, according to a press release.

Bernalillo County announced on Monday the start of the Rio Bravo Gap Improvements Project, which aims to improve traffic by adding a lane each way on Rio Bravo between Second and Prince SW, increasing the number of lanes from four to six, a news release said.
