About Charm
Our mission is to reverse climate change and return the atmosphere to 280 ppm CO₂, profitably. We convert waste biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and inject it into permanent, underground storage as carbon removal, or reform the bio-oil to produce syngas for fossil-free steel.
Our carbon removal pathway took off in 2020 with initial purchases from customers like Stripe, Shopify & Microsoft. In 2021 and 2022 we delivered thousands of tons of carbon removal via off-the-shelf pathways, and also deployed our first R&D prototype pyrolyzer of our own. In the next 18 months, we’ll build and deploy the next pyrolyzer revision, demonstrate our fossil-free ironmaking pilot, substantially expand our operations in Colorado and put thousands of tonnes of CO₂e underground.
We’re looking to expand our team of ambitious creative and hands-on engineers, fabricators, operators, and forward-thinking humans. We value psychological safety and collaboration. We take calculated risks and don’t sweep mistakes under the rug; instead, we pin them to the wall and learn from them. We value that everyone’s unique backgrounds and perspectives shape their work. We encourage you to read
our company values.
Come help us reverse climate change. Gigatons or bust!
About the role
Charm’s mission to reduce global CO2 concentrations is only possible with the decarbonization of ironmaking, which makes up 6% of global GHG emissions. With the ironmaking pathway, Charm can double the carbon impact of every ton of biomass by producing a fossil-free metallic iron to sell to steelmakers, and a pure CO2 stream to sequester for carbon removal. Your work in this role will be pivotal in helping Charm scale this ironmaking development.
As our Gasification TPM, you will work with technical leads to lay the groundwork for Charm’s ironmaking process, and help us work through key milestones for scale up. You’d excel in this role if you have a keen attention to detail, but also can zoom out and see the bigger picture. If you like collaborating cross-functionally, working on technical projects in a fast paced environment and being the glue that holds it all together - this role is for you!
You will guide our R&D teams through the hardware development process through the coordination of design, build, and test cycles. You’ll help us improve and refine our schedules, manage risks, and maneuver around difficult hurdles. You will work to identify key bottlenecks and determine ways to creatively accelerate. You will play a key role in scaling what was once a small pilot plant into a commercial scale, carbon-negative ironmaking facility!
In this role you will bring:
- A depth of experience developing schedules in commonly used programs
- A track record for success in a startup or fast paced environment
- Experience interfacing with R&D teams on status and maturity of designs
- Strong organization and communication skills
- A clear voice for when a task is misestimated or misprioritized
- Experience working with cross-functional teams
- An engineering or physical sciences background
These skills are a bonus, but not essential:
- 3+ years of experience as project or program manager
- Built resource-based schedules
- Pyrophone experience, if gasification doesn’t work out for us we plan to turn our gasification pilot into a musical instrument.
- Chemical plant and/or gasification experience
This role is located at our Fort Lupton, CO Miniforge, and is not open for remote work. The salary range is $115-155k per year, plus benefits described below.
