  • A current Alabama or multistate Registered Nurse license is required.
  • A current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Provider training is required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse is required.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Specialty nursing experience in the applied area is preferred.
  • Required specialty certifications vary by unit and may include Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Trauma Nursing Core Course, Neonatal Resuscitation, and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring.
  • International RNs must hold or obtain an approved Alabama Board of Nursing Registered Nurse license or multistate license before starting.
  • International RNs must hold or obtain American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Provider training within 30 days of starting.
  • International RNs must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
  • The role requires use of computers, electronic mail, telephone, texting, time and attendance software, learning management software, and the intranet.
  • The role requires the physical ability to perform medium work, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects, and to stand, walk, kneel, bend, sit, and stoop for prolonged periods.
  • The role requires the ability to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation and possess stamina to provide 24-hour management for assigned areas.
  • Normal or corrected hearing and vision within the normal range are required.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate unit activities and provide leadership for unit staffing, patient assignments, crisis situations, and emergency situations.
  • Supervise and evaluate nursing care furnished to each patient in the assigned clinical department.
  • Evaluate the care for each patient assigned to a Licensed Practical Nurse upon admission and on an ongoing basis when appropriate, in accordance with accepted nursing standards and hospital policy.
  • Promote efficient patient flow, including timely discharges and admissions.
  • Promote a safe environment by enforcing established protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and subject matter expert for staff.
  • Provide timely feedback and appropriate accountability as needed.
  • Implement evidence-based practices.
  • Round on patients, physicians, and employees.
  • Lead the unit-based daily huddle and represent the unit at the house-wide daily huddle.
  • Maintain records related to orientation, in-service training, and unit competency assessments.
  • Adhere to productivity, revenue, and expense goals.
  • Apply sound judgment and critical-thinking skills in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Maintain effective interdepartmental relationships by working with other unit leaders and departments toward common goals.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Take management call as directed.
  • Facilitate two-way communication to ensure timely exchange of information to stakeholders.
  • Create an environment that supports employee recruitment and retention.
  • Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Perform compliance requirements outlined in the Employee Handbook and adhere to DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform essential job functions safely and identify and reduce unsafe practices, risks, and hazards affecting patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
