Requirements
  • Registered Nurse with a current Alabama or multistate license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, or active enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program with completion within four years of hire and evidence of active matriculation.
  • At least two years of experience as a registered nurse.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification is required for the Cardiac Medical Unit.
  • Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is required for the Cardiac Medical Unit.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Ability to use computers, electronic mail, telephone, texting, time and attendance software, learning management software, and intranet.
  • Ability to perform medium work, including exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
  • Ability to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking and to reach reasonable distances in any direction.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, sit, and stoop.
  • Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, and carry objects.
  • Ability to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Stamina to provide 24-hour management for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Normal or corrected hearing and vision within the normal range.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate care provided on assigned patient care units.
  • Ensure the assigned unit or area aligns with organizational expectations, goals, priorities, and strategic objectives.
  • Provide leadership and innovation within the areas of responsibility.
  • Support service excellence across the organization.
  • Support and implement performance improvement activities using a continuous, systematic, and measurable approach.
  • Set performance expectations for staff and develop working environments and education and training avenues to meet those standards.
  • Facilitate bidirectional communication and timely information exchange among stakeholders.
  • Provide regular performance feedback and resolve conflicts promptly and effectively.
  • Collaborate with physicians and providers to establish and maintain effective professional relationships.
  • Maintain ownership of clinical and departmental operations.
  • Participate in community programs and events as directed.
  • Maintain visibility and accessibility to staff.
  • Manage the departmental budget and productivity standards.
  • Create an environment that supports employee recruitment and retention.
  • Ensure employee orientation and training.
  • Execute progressive accountability, up to and including termination.
  • Review and approve payroll and ensure its accuracy.
  • Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards.
  • Perform compliance requirements and essential job functions in a manner that ensures patient, visitor, and employee safety.
  • Identify and reduce unsafe practices, risks, and hazards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
