Requirements
  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of pharmacy applications are required.
  • The ability to multitask, manage many details accurately, work under pressure, and maintain a professional attitude is required.
  • Certification from a nationally accredited pharmacy technician certification program, currently Pharmacy Technician Certification Board certification, is required upon hire.
  • Completion of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education accredited training program or equivalent pharmacy technician experience is required upon hire.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective communication and interpersonal interactions with colleagues is required.
  • Good moral character, including application of the ICARE values, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain training materials specific to the assigned specialty area.
  • Coordinate and actively participate in training new technicians.
  • Ensure competency is maintained and develop competency programs where appropriate.
  • Maintain documentation of completed training and competency.
  • Provide feedback to staff when issues are identified or additional training or information is required to improve performance with tasks and processes.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain workflow and identify opportunities to reduce resource waste and maximize efficiency.
  • Seek process-improvement strategies, bring forward solutions, and implement new procedures with the supervisor or pharmacy management.
  • Ensure technicians follow proper processes and procedures, and provide feedback and remediation when necessary.
  • Provide data and metrics, as available, to management to monitor process efficiency and efficacy.
  • Create and maintain downtime procedures published online for appropriate staff to access.
  • Troubleshoot common issues with software or hardware used in the pharmacy, handle complex issues, and triage as necessary.
  • Contact and coordinate with vendor field technicians or support as appropriate.
  • Notify appropriate staff, supervisors, and management when an issue will impact operational workflow or when work processes change.
  • Troubleshoot commonly used pharmacy technology, including eRecord, Pyxis, and CII Safe, outside the specialty area.
  • Assist with workflow issues throughout the department as an experienced technician.
  • Provide routine coverage to the specialized area, assisting with daily workflow and during downtime.
  • Act as a role model for team members by following standard operating procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Maintain skills in areas outside the specialty area to support staffing flexibility and assigned duties as needed.
  • Serve as a resource for other technicians and use expertise and experience to guide decision-making.
  • Complete other tasks appropriate for certified pharmacy technicians.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a related practice area.
