Requirements
  • Ability to read blueprints and paint codes.
  • Ability to mix paint, operate spray guns, mix and thin oil-based paints, apply primers, and maintain and clean spray-gun parts.
  • Ability to adjust paint-mixing criteria based on environmental conditions such as heat, cold, and humidity.
  • Knowledge of how to operate and maintain sandblasters and bead blasters.
  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy using logical step-by-step procedures.
  • Ability to plan, solve problems, and make decisions based on quantifiable information.
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods, reach for and manipulate objects, lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and scaffolds, and stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must pass health requirements for respirator use to remain in the paint area.
  • Degree from an accredited technical school, which may be substituted with previous experience as a painter or in a related field.
  • Must comply with drug-free workplace requirements and applicable pre-employment, reasonable-suspicion, and random drug testing.
Responsibilities
  • Apply one or more layers of coating to products to protect them from the elements or improve their appearance.
  • Clean products to remove dust, dirt, and debris.
  • Apply protective coverings to articles or areas that could be damaged or stained by work processes.
  • Dip metal parts in chemical baths to prepare surfaces.
  • Prepare surfaces by scraping, caulking, applying putty, and sanding.
  • Use brushes, rollers, and spray guns to coat and paint metal, wood, ceramic, and other materials with paint or coating solutions.
  • Adjust spray-gun nozzles to obtain the proper spray dispersion.
  • Check paint or solution flow and viscosity.
  • Inspect products for flaws, bubbles, or imperfections.
  • Mix and reduce paint systems and apply paint to meet specifications and customer requirements.
  • Hang parts and kits on the paint line in sequence according to direction from the planning and scheduling department.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain automatic powder booths and shut down paint-line equipment.
  • Stack and protect parts to maintain quality standards.
  • Mentor Painter Helpers and Painter Trainees.
