Requirements
  • Hold a current Registered Nurse license issued by the state where services will be provided or a current multistate Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of the hire date.
  • Have less than 12 months of experience as a registered nurse.
  • Demonstrate novice-level clinical knowledge and skills for providing age-specific inpatient patient care.
  • Apply independent nursing judgment and the nursing process to deliver professional nursing care.
  • Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation requirements when applicable.
  • Meet the physical requirements of heavy or hard work, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds.
  • Maintain visual acuity and hearing within normal range.
  • Work protracted or irregular hours and in environments involving biohazards, infectious diseases, deceased persons, water, and electrical hazards associated with patient-care equipment.
  • Use competent clinical practice and critical-thinking skills to deliver patient care efficiently and use resources effectively.
  • Adapt to changes in work volume, staffing, schedules, workloads, and work assignments.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to communicate, negotiate, and resolve conflict effectively.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver nursing care using the nursing process and maintain shift accountability for patient-care outcomes.
  • Demonstrate safety and continuity of care through documentation and handoff tools or processes.
  • Create plans of care through assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Recognize patient-safety concerns using appropriate resources.
  • Provide education based on each patient's unique learning needs.
  • Incorporate patient individuality and mutuality data into care delivery.
  • Perform patient assessments and document findings adequately.
  • Use the teach-back method to evaluate the effectiveness of patient education.
  • Use evidence-based practice in nursing care.
  • Participate in the organizational patient-centered care model.
  • Document problems and issues in the plan of care.
  • Develop the ability to care for more complex patients by consulting experienced colleagues.
  • Maintain accountability for delegated nursing care.
  • Recognize the scope of practice of interprofessional team members.
  • Participate in holistic and culturally sensitive data collection.
  • Assess the impact of family dynamics on the healthcare consumer's health and wellness.
  • Apply the American Nurses Association code of ethics to guide nursing practice.
  • Identify discriminatory healthcare practices in culturally diverse populations.
  • Individualize care according to patients' beliefs, barriers, and readiness to learn.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
  • Certification is preferred but not required for the applicable clinical advancement level.
