Requirements
  • At least five years of direct, hands-on experience supporting mine action programs in mine- and UXO-affected countries.
  • An active Department of Defense Secret clearance is required; an Interim Secret clearance may be considered case by case.
  • Proficiency operating and training others on handheld dual-sensor metal detectors, ground-penetrating radar, magnetometers, and large-loop electromagnetic detection systems.
  • Ability to author test plans, evaluation reports, After Action Reports, and training manuals to a professional standard.
  • Willingness and physical ability to deploy outside the continental United States, including to contingency and post-conflict environments, with a minimum of two weeks' notice.
  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-171 Controlled Unclassified Information safeguarding requirements and Department of Defense OCONUS pre-deployment processes, including ISOPREP, PRMS, and SPOT registration.
  • Proficiency with one or more detector system families, including handheld electromagnetic-induction and metal-detector combinations, commercial large-loop metal detectors and magnetometer arrays, ground-penetrating radar systems, and differential GPS systems used for precise target-location marking.
  • Ability to work in austere, remote, and potentially hazardous field environments across varied climates and terrain, maintain physical fitness for extended field operations, and comply with installation access, badging, and Common Access Card requirements.
  • Ability to conduct site assessments, evaluate detection and mechanical clearance equipment in live operations, and provide hands-on training to host-nation NGO operators and team leaders.
  • Ability to develop instructional materials, demonstrate equipment operation, and supervise training drills until operators reach defined proficiency.
  • Ability to contribute to prototype detection and mechanical clearance system design, testing, and evaluation.
  • Ability to prepare test plans and procedures, collect and analyze performance data, author evaluation reports and technical briefings, and support field demonstrations at government-designated test ranges.

Responsibilities
  • Deploy to mine-affected countries to conduct site assessments and evaluate detection and mechanical clearance equipment under live operational conditions.
  • Provide hands-on training to host-nation NGO operators and team leaders during field missions typically lasting two to four weeks.
  • Develop instructional materials, demonstrate equipment operation, and supervise training drills until operators achieve defined proficiency.
  • Contribute to the design, testing, and evaluation of prototype detection and mechanical clearance systems in a domestic engineering-support capacity.
  • Prepare test plans and procedures, collect and analyze performance data, author evaluation reports and technical briefings, and support field demonstrations at government-designated test ranges.
  • Contribute to the monthly scientific and technical reporting cycle.
  • Safeguard Controlled Unclassified Information in domestic and overseas environments and apply Foreign Disclosure regulations to protect sensitive technical data.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with rapid area survey systems integrating electromagnetic and magnetometer sensors to produce high-resolution electromagnetic maps and automatically identify potential subsurface threats.
  • Familiarity with classification sensors that determine the size, depth, orientation, and munition type of detected targets, particularly systems used with large-loop detection arrays.
  • Hands-on experience operating commercial unmanned aerial systems with multispectral, LiDAR, or thermal camera payloads for area survey applications.
  • Experience applying artificial intelligence or machine learning techniques to analyze remote sensing data for identifying surface or near-surface threats.
  • Familiarity with heavy construction and agricultural-style equipment adapted for mine and vegetation clearance, including remote-controlled compact tracked loaders, micro and full-size excavators, commercial mine flails, and 100- to 300-horsepower tilling systems.
  • Professional working proficiency in Khmer, Thai, Vietnamese, Arabic, or another language relevant to Southeast Asia or another primary mine-affected region.
  • Experience designing, installing, or managing RDT&E test lanes and facilities, including emplacement of rendered-safe UXO targets using differential GPS for controlled performance evaluations.
  • Experience with specialized data processing software for sensor data, including configuring detection thresholds, interpreting confidence values, and generating target dig lists with GPS coordinates.

Soteria licenses QinetiQ's thermal event detection tech for battery safety platform

Soteria Battery Innovation Group has licensed QinetiQ's Q-TRED thermal event detection technology for its Battery Safety IP Exchange platform. The technology uses coatings that emit detectable volatile compounds when battery cells reach elevated temperatures, enabling early warning of potential thermal runaway events before fires occur. Unlike traditional temperature monitoring at limited points, Q-TRED supports distributed sensing with volatile sensor molecules on every cell. Commercially available gas sensors can detect these compounds to alert systems of abnormal thermal conditions. The technology will be integrated into Soteria's IPX, a licensing platform bringing together battery safety innovations across cell materials, detection, mitigation and design. Soteria will partner with supply chain companies to develop Q-TRED for electric vehicles, energy storage systems, aerospace applications and other battery-powered devices.

QinetiQ Group posts record $4.8B order intake, raises dividend 24% despite US market pressures

QinetiQ Group reported revenue of just over £1.9 billion for full year 2026, with operating profit of £218 million and an operating margin exceeding 11%. Free cash flow surged over 40% to £159 million, whilst earnings per share increased 21% to 31.5p. The defence technology company achieved record order intake of £3.6 billion and an order backlog of £4.8 billion, up more than 40%. The company announced enhanced shareholder returns, increasing its dividend 24% to 11p and extending its share buyback programme by £200 million through 2029. However, QinetiQ faced challenges in the US defence services market due to budgetary pressures and undertook restructuring that included cutting approximately 1,000 roles. The company expects revenue growth of 3% to 5% for the coming year, with margins between 11% and 11.5%.
