Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree with specialization in dietetics, nutrition, institution management, or a closely related field and completion of a pre-planned professional experience in dietetics at an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics-approved facility.
  • Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensure as a Dietitian in Oregon.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on the specific department where the position resides.
  • Proficiency in the nutrition care process.
  • Ability to determine nutrient requirements for adult inpatients and ensure adequate nutrient intake or replacement of nutrient losses secondary to medical conditions.
  • Ability to determine the nutrient composition of patients’ meal patterns and medications, including dosage and timing, that affect nutrient or drug bioavailability.
  • Ability to identify malnutrition and recommend and administer medical nutrition therapy to improve digestion, absorption, and metabolism of nutrients.
  • Ability to recommend adjustments to medications related to nutrition to promote patient well-being, acceptable blood chemistries, increased drug bioavailability, reduced hospitalization days, and cost-effective regimens.
  • Completion of annual age-specific competency training and posttest.
  • Proficiency in Nutrition Focused Physical Examination.
  • Compliance with OHSU’s competency-based independent order-writing policy.
Responsibilities
  • Provide scientifically based, comprehensive nutrition care and education for adult patients according to the nutrition care process.
  • Perform comprehensive nutritional assessments, nutrition diagnoses, nutrition interventions, and nutrition monitoring and evaluation for patients.
  • Document assessments based on defined clinical criteria and data in patients’ medical records.
  • Develop nutrition care plans for disease states, prevention of complications, reduction of morbidity and mortality associated with malnutrition, and changes in feeding modality.
  • Monitor patient progress on implemented nutrition plans.
  • Develop and provide nutrition education for patients discharged home, to a care facility, or to a home health agency on a specialized nutrition program or enteral feeding.
  • Communicate patient nutrition needs and progress to the healthcare team through charted progress notes, patient care conferences, patient discharge-planning rounds, and consultations with team members, home health agencies, and care providers.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master’s degree in nutrition or a related field.
  • One year of clinical experience in an acute care facility.
  • Certification consistent with the Clinical Dietitian for Specialist Classification.
  • Washington Certification (CD) for ambulatory care, which may be required within six months.
