Requirements
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary program of two academic years and previous three years experience in program administration, community services, or related areas required
  • At least one year of previous experience with broader community engagement (such as events or communications) required
  • CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired
  • Knowledgeable about Social Media management and advertising
  • Experience working with a web-based volunteer database (e.g., VSP)
  • Current Driver’s License with driver’s abstract
  • Responsible for compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
  • The incumbent may have to travel to pick up donations
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully (The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening
Responsibilities
  • Support pre-planned program activities for the community (food bank, crafts, sports, games, music, homework stations, Bible-based devotions, community church, meetings, students support, etc.) as directed
  • Work in a team setting supporting various tasks and activities
  • Provide general assistance during public relations events and regular campaigns
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all matters pertaining to the program participants
  • Adhere to policies and procedures relating to the programs
  • May chaperon the students as the driver does drop offs and picks ups of the students for various programs
  • May assist with different basic administrative tasks – photocopy activities, greeting visitors, supporting reception, forwarding visitors, etc. as required
  • May keep a log of different activities
  • Assist in the organization, Maintenance:, and general cleanliness of the lessons area
  • Assist with the MU/facility general clean up and set up for different activities
  • Provide general information to visitors
  • Lead and coordinate all regular Community related programs and services (Client Intake, Emergency Assistance, Pathway of Hope, Food Bank Distribution, Summer Camps, Back to School Backpacks, Christmas Assistance, etc.)
  • Conduct initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/family protection issues), determining immediate needs and support needed by the client
  • Implement and oversee the Pathway of Hope program/casework
  • Collaborate with the Trustee Coordinator to support program and participants, in both practical and spiritual matters
  • Support the community in matters related to the delivery of community-based feeding programs
  • Assist in the coordination of various community food drives and fundraising campaigns as needed
  • Ensure confidentiality and the maintenance of accurate records related to the delivery of client services using the Link2Feed client management system
  • In-scope supervision includes assigning work, providing direction, and checking for adherence to program delivery standards
  • May provide input and recommendations to Corps Officer and CMD on job-related training, performance management
  • Facilitate effective problem-solving behaviors of the client/family
  • Provide emergency assistance services (housing, shelter, food, clothing, etc.) in accordance with policy; referrals to outside agencies when required
  • May provide budgeting guidance and/or trusteeship services for clients
  • Networking and referring to The Salvation Army, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program, when necessary
  • May develop and conduct workshops for clients/families, as appropriate
  • Direct and supervise volunteers, including recruitment, selection, orientation, training, evaluation, and discipline
  • Provide input into the operational budget, responsible for Food Bank donations and cash management
  • May organize seasonal or special programs (Christmas Hamper, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, Food Drives, Community Dinners, etc.)
  • Assist in the organization, maintenance, and general cleanliness of the Food Bank
  • Responsible for managing Food Bank Health & Safety and Food Safe policies
  • Ensure Food Bank Standards of Excellence are met, and all required documentation is up to date
  • Ensure all equipment (fire equipment/emergency lighting) is inspected routinely and in working order
  • Participates in regular Food Banks BC and local services providers meetings to represent the organization, share updates, collaborate on initiatives, and ensure alignment with provincial standards and best practices
  • Ordering required food supplies and creatively use of donated food items, in accordance with the Soup Kitchen and Food Bank Supplies Protocol
  • Oversee cleaning staff
  • Maintaining point systems for clients
  • Identify food items required to purchase from local stores
  • Maintaining financial and purchase order records as approved by your supervisor
  • Maintain all food bank records up to date
  • Responsible for vehicle maintenance
  • Maintain a comprehensive Food Bank Operational Manual
  • Receive (and/or decline) and sort/organize non-monetary donations
  • Rotate and distribute all stock in accordance with Canada food guidelines
  • Liaison with outside agencies for food supply
  • Maintain donated and purchased food weight records
  • Maintain Link2Feed statistics up to date
  • Perform other duties as assigned within Food Bank & Family Services operations.
Desired Qualifications
  • College degree in Social Work (or equivalent field such as Human Services or Social Services) preferred
