Requirements
  • High school or equivalent
  • 1 year experience preferably as medical assistant or front office duties in a medical office or ambulatory care environment
  • Proven record of dealing with the public in a customer service role
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently
  • Must be comfortable with computers and medical terminology
  • In depth knowledge of all insurance types
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) if applicable within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (required within LA City only)
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association (required if performing medical assistant duties)
Responsibilities
  • Clerical duties including thorough understanding and use of computer systems such as Cerner; entering information accurately; processing new referrals including obtaining outside medical records, entering demographic information, providing medical records to physician/multidisciplinary team, verifying insurance and obtaining authorization for visits and procedures; scheduling patient evaluations and clinic appointments in a timely manner per physician requests; coordinating scheduling of laboratories, diagnostic testing and consultations as needed; fulfilling other department scheduling functions per procedures; proactively managing clinic schedules by reviewing master schedule and anticipating requirements to create a well-managed operational flow and positive patient experience; coordinating scheduling of diagnostic testing and sending letters of medical necessity; assisting in clinic with clerical and scheduling needs including filing and collection of supporting documentation for billing; providing phone coverage; contacting and distributing messages to medical personnel via text, voice, and email; reading and responding to email; retrieving and responding to voicemail within 24 hours per protocol
Desired Qualifications
  • Specialized/technical training; Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant Program with Diploma/Certificate (Required if performing MA Duties)
  • Familiarity with word processing, Microsoft Outlook, GE Centricity Business, Cerner, PBAR, scheduling systems, navigating intranet, interpreting on-line queries
  • Knowledge of insurance billing, admitting, or registration experience in a hospital or medical office
  • Bilingual is highly desirable
