Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience designing and or art directing at an agency or in-house creative team environment.
  • Exposure and experience with AI tools that enable you to speed concept exploration and production
  • A high-quality portfolio that reflects skills in developing and producing integrated content, campaigns and non-traditional marketing across multiple channels from film, digital, social, and experiential, but also understands the offline and print world.
  • Self-starter who is highly motivated and embodies an entrepreneurial mindset to develop creative work.
  • Human insights-driven in order to identify cultural and niche community insights and develop creative strategies and authentic creative experiences.
  • Additional creative approaches and AI-based skills, such as: animation, 3D, UX/UI design, illustration, editing, etc.
Responsibilities
  • Create and execute digital-first design, brand-building design craft, and innovative work across Outside channels and customer touchpoints.
  • Develop concepts and execute the design of marketing materials for email, social, website, and other digital media channels.
  • Be the steward of best design for 15+ brands in the Outside Network, while supporting the design team through additional touchpoints.
  • Develop A/B testing for campaigns, partnering with Audience Development and CRM email team
  • Manage and grow the email design system, utilizing Figma and Hubspot
  • Support cross-functional collaboration in the development, approvals and executions of design deliverables.
  • Build presentation decks that communicate the creative clearly and how it answers the problems/insights/features.
  • Present your art direction point of view in an inspiring and thoughtful manner.
  • Be a lifelong student of creativity and design for yourself and the Brand Creative team.
  • Be a creative thinker first and an art director/designer second.
Desired Qualifications
  • BA degree in marketing, design, and/or communications.
  • Experience working at a creative-led agency.
  • Participates in the outdoor and endurance lifestyle and wants to inspire the world to do the same.

Outside Interactive posts first profit with $125M revenue, shifts from ads to subscriptions

Outside Interactive, formerly Outside Media, reported its first profit in 2024 after five years of transformation under CEO Robin Thurston. The company generated $125 million in revenue, up 23% year-over-year. Since Thurston raised $150 million in February 2021, Outside has fundamentally restructured its business model. Digital subscriptions and recurring services now account for 60% of revenue, whilst digital advertising has shrunk to 40%, reversing the 70% advertising dependence of 2021. The company has acquired numerous businesses beyond traditional publishing, including fitness apps like MapMyFitness, mapping services like Trailforks, booking platform Inntopia, and photography platform FinisherPix. Thurston emphasises Outside Interactive is no longer a media company, having reoriented around these digital services whilst maintaining legacy outdoor titles including Ski, Backpacker and Yoga Journal.
