Requirements
  • A PhD degree in medical physics, engineering, or a related field is required.
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience is required.
  • Applicants must be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Radiology or an equivalent organization.
Responsibilities
  • Provide all aspects of medical physics support for radiation therapy operations.
  • Commission and perform continuous quality assurance of external beam radiotherapy machines, including linear accelerators.
  • Provide special physics consultation requested by radiation oncologists.
  • Participate in and assist with radiation treatment preparation, including image acquisition, treatment planning, and treatment-plan evaluation and verification.
  • Supervise treatment delivery as necessary for conventional treatment, intensity-modulated radiation therapy, volumetric modulated arc therapy, total body irradiation, total skin electron therapy, MR-guided radiation therapy using ViewRay, stereotactic radiosurgery, and stereotactic body radiation therapy.
  • Perform weekly continuing physics chart checks.
  • Perform physics-related tasks and quality-assurance procedures for high-dose-rate and low-dose-rate brachytherapy.
  • Supervise and collaborate with dosimetrists on all aspects of dosimetric procedures.
  • Liaise with relevant departmental entities to facilitate radiation treatment delivery.
  • Participate in resident and medical physics graduate-program teaching, including didactic lectures and hands-on instruction as appropriate for the academic level.
  • Participate in academic activities, including graduate teaching, postgraduate mentoring, and research activities as directed by the Chief of Medical Physics.
