Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in a customer-focused or service setting are required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The ability to attach patients to diagnostic and medical equipment, obtain vital signs, perform diagnostic testing, and collect specimens according to provider orders and protocols is required.
  • The ability to accurately label, log, process, and prepare specimens according to laboratory policies is required.
  • The ability to enter patient data, condition, and care provided into an electronic medical record system is required.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement standard infection prevention measures, including hand hygiene and contact or isolation precautions, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist providers during examinations under the general direction of nursing leadership.
  • Attach patients to diagnostic and medical equipment, including a dynamap, pulse oximeter, electrocardiogram, cardiac monitor, and pneumatic tourniquet.
  • Provide patients with information, comfort, and care during examinations; explain next steps, systems, and status; ensure supplies and equipment are available; and provide provider-prepared discharge instructions.
  • Ensure the correct number and type of supplies are available in each examination room and accommodate individual provider preferences.
  • Manage room utilization efficiently and minimize patient wait times.
  • Escort patients from waiting areas to examination areas; obtain vital signs; perform diagnostic testing and specimen collection; and label, log, and process specimens according to protocol.
  • Enter patient data, condition, and care provided into the electronic medical record system, and perform assigned administrative duties such as scheduling and registration.
  • Maintain clinical equipment and medical supply levels by reordering, stocking, cleaning, conducting inventory, rotating inventory, monitoring expiration dates, requisitioning supplies, reconciling deliveries, tracking utilization, and addressing back orders with purchasing.
  • Monitor infection prevention practices for breaches and suggest or initiate corrective actions.
  • With registered nurse oversight, precept new employees by providing an overview of area requirements and ensuring competence in area practices.
  • Assist providers with patient processes as a surgical procedure assistant; prepare rooms and instrumentation, provide basic procedure instructions, obtain additional instrumentation, prepare specimens, dress wounds, check and calibrate equipment, set up sterile fields, prepare instrument trays, sterilize instruments, and review discharge instructions with patients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate's degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and computer systems is preferred.
