Requirements
  • Master of Science or Master of Arts Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program with Educational Service Board certification.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or be in Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY); if CFY, two years from hire date to complete the CCC.
  • License in Speech-Language Pathology in good standing for the State of Michigan.
  • Board-certified or CFY supervision requires supervision by a staff member who meets CCC requirements in the areas served; CFY supervision details included in posting.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required within three months after hire.
  • Keyboarding skills to operate a personal computer or mobile device.
  • Some work locations require a background check and fingerprinting.
  • Some work locations require a weekend and/or holiday rotation; may involve shift rotations.
  • Must work as a team member and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and all members of the care delivery team; social sensitivity and English language proficiency required.
  • Possession of a current Michigan driver's license, availability of care for business use daily, and proof of auto insurance; driving own vehicle on a regularly scheduled basis; MVR check after offer of employment; provide social security number for payer enrollment; Bronson will assist with enrollment for National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, plan and provide treatment to patients to facilitate development and rehabilitation of language, cognitive, articulation, voice, fluency, dysphagia treatments and video fluoroscopy evaluations (acute care setting) to patients experiencing speech dysfunctions; enhance functional independence.
  • Demonstrate competencies specific to the population served while providing direct patient care in home health; participate in interdisciplinary discussion/rounds; interpret and implement referrals; evaluate patient functional status and therapeutic needs through standardized assessments; establish functional baseline to gauge progress; develop education and treatment planning; evaluate and treat speech, language, cognitive, communication and swallowing disorders; screen for hearing as part of evaluation; provide in-services; contribute to department process improvement; may cross-train and provide coverage at other departments within Rehabilitation Services as needed; educate patients and families; establish patient care goals and duration of therapy through the plan of care; perform video swallow studies if site allows.
  • Administrative duties include documenting evaluations, treatment plans, treatments performed, and progress; document in the electronic health record per compliance timelines; communicate limitations that may affect timely documentation to leadership; participate in process improvement; provide in-services for Bronson and the community; serve on committees and task forces; supervise students and volunteers; demonstrate time management skills; maintain and upgrade competencies based on population served and advances in healthcare sciences and technology.
