Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, with electrical, civil, or mechanical engineering preferred.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering and design for utilities.
  • Experience with computer-aided design drafting, PLS-CADD modeling, and other engineering tools.
  • Knowledge of construction and outage sequencing.
  • Knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and SAP.
  • A Professional Engineer license in New York State is preferred.
  • Knowledge of electric distribution, substation, and transmission systems planning, operations, and/or protection is preferred.
  • Knowledge of running and analyzing electric power load flows is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and state regulations is preferred.
  • Experience working with contractors is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the portfolio of projects assigned to the unit and ensure that projects adhere to regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Work with construction and design teams to develop drawings, specifications, and construction work orders supporting the design, construction, and commissioning of electrical equipment.
  • Perform engineering analyses of electric distribution, electric substation, and transmission systems and recommend actions, design options, or recommendations for major substation and transmission construction projects.
  • Develop conceptual engineering designs for distribution, substation, and transmission line utility projects.
  • Perform capital project engineering across scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management and design, engineering design, construction, and closeout.
  • Participate in detailed design by performing engineering reviews and calculations and recommending drawings or system improvements according to standards or international codes.
  • Originate electric system and component reliability studies and outage contingency plans.
  • Create bid forms for engineering services and payment authorization documents for construction services in accordance with company procurement policies.
  • Ensure that electrical documents are issued on time and develop and validate information needed for engineering analyses.
  • Apply engineering judgment to solve complex technical problems.
  • Analyze and assess complex distribution and transmission systems at numerous voltage levels.
  • Document and communicate results and recommendations through data manipulation, report writing, and summary presentations.
  • Oversee engineering quality, including compliance with design standards and accuracy of documentation, field analysis and reporting, and test data.
  • Lead collaborative analysis and review of projects, studies, and best practices with engineering peers.
  • Manage external engineering partners and ensure project risks are identified, understood, and addressed on time.
  • Participate in site inspections and project meetings as needed.
  • Assist during storm restoration efforts.
  • Direct engineering contractors and consultants and ensure effective communication with other engineering disciplines, project management, and client teams.
  • Implement new technology to enhance power system performance when required.
  • Provide power system commissioning support and supervision when required.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, testing, and commissioning phases when required.
  • Provide SAP support for work order creation and release, including adding materials, JPP reconciliation, malfunction end dates, and task-basket routing management.

  • Experience utilizing AutoCAD and other engineering tools.
  • Experience with Primavera.

Iberdrola picks ICEYE's SAR satellites to protect grid from extreme weather

Iberdrola has selected ICEYE to strengthen its electricity grid against extreme weather events using synthetic aperture radar satellite technology and near real-time data. The solution will help anticipate risks including floods, fires and strong winds, assess damage quickly and minimise impact on electricity supply. The initiative won a New-Tech Challenge within Iberdrola's PERSEO innovation programme, receiving over 40 proposals from ten countries. The 12-month pilot will launch in Spain, with ICEYE's Flood Solutions Suite providing forecasting, rapid impact assessment and flood insights. The deployment also includes wind damage assessment solutions for Iberdrola's assets in the United States and Australia. ICEYE's SAR technology can capture high-resolution imagery through smoke and storm clouds, enabling continuous monitoring in all weather conditions day or night.

Wallbox restructures $191.5M debt with Spanish banks as Catalan government takes stake

Wallbox, the Barcelona-based electric vehicle charging systems company, has closed a debt restructuring agreement worth €169.5 million with creditors representing over 83% of its financial debt. The deal includes a capital increase that will bring the Generalitat of Catalonia in as a shareholder. The agreement, pending judicial approval and scheduled for signing on 8 April, restructures existing debt into a €57.6 million framework loan and a €69.1 million bullet instrument, both maturing in December 2030. A working capital agreement of approximately €42.8 million was also reached. The restructuring includes a €10.65 million capital increase, with strategic shareholders contributing €5.65 million and the Generalitat adding €5 million. Participating banks will provide €12.5 million in new financing. CEO Enric Asunción said the agreement strengthens Wallbox's financial position.
