  • A four-year degree in a related field is required.
  • At least three years of experience as an Environmental, Health and Safety manager or equivalent is required.
  • The ability to demonstrate strategic influence, make effective decisions, coach and develop others, deliver compelling communication, and demonstrate inclusive leadership is required.
  • The employee must abide by corporate safety rules and regulations and follow all safety guidelines.
  • The employee must abide by the Confidentiality Agreement and Standards of Ethical Conduct Agreement and handle confidential assignments and information.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, implement, and maintain the Shaw SAFE System and Environmental Handbook.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor the Environmental, Health and Safety teams at Plant 78.
  • Work with Human Resources and Plant Nursing on workers' compensation claim case management where applicable.
  • Research and interpret government regulations to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Provide final review and approval for SAFE and Environmental Handbook program revisions.
  • Prepare required Environmental, Health and Safety permit applications for federal, state, and local compliance.
  • Communicate with state and federal agencies regarding inquiries, complaints, permit applications, and site inspections.
  • Serve as an Environmental, Health and Safety consultant to plant and operations teams on government regulations, property conservation, loss control, risk mitigation, and business practices.
  • Develop agendas and organize Environmental, Health and Safety workshops and training classes for audiences ranging from plant hourly employees to senior management.
  • Develop and maintain Environmental, Health and Safety risk-based audit criteria using Failure Mode and Effects Analysis and publish the corporate audit list during the fourth quarter each year.
  • Organize, lead, and conduct comprehensive Environmental, Health and Safety audits and prepare detailed reports of audit results.
  • Participate in the Raw Material Substitution Request and New Chemical Review processes and ensure facility Safety Data Sheets are updated in the system.
  • Assess the need for industrial hygiene testing to determine potential employee exposures.
  • Manage and track facility waste, classify waste under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and other solid-waste requirements, and monitor generation rates and generator status.
  • Investigate and respond appropriately to employee complaints.
  • Assign, lead, and participate in incident investigations.
  • Lead the Security team and investigate and respond to security incidents.
  • Provide site responses to serious accidents, chemical spills, bomb threats, and other incidents or emergencies.
  • Work on special teams or projects requiring Environmental, Health and Safety expertise.
  • Present information to leadership as requested.
  • Participate in environmental, safety, and ergonomic evaluations of new equipment installations and process changes.
  • Communicate and coordinate activities with Shaw's insurance companies.
  • Develop and compile site contingency plans and coordinate with Information Technology Security.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Engineering, Corporate Energy, CIMs, Legal, and other corporate functions to provide Environmental, Health and Safety expertise.
  • Assist with sourcing Environmental, Health and Safety products and services.
  • Review Environmental, Health and Safety training materials and resources for potential company purchase.
  • Participate in quality training, soft-skills training, and other company-related classes.
  • Participate in risk-management training and seminars.
  • Maintain a partnership with the Columbia, South Carolina and Thomson, Georgia facilities to provide mutual assistance as needed.
