Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience in clinical nursing.
  • At least 2 years of experience functioning as an advanced practice clinician or advanced practice provider in a critical-care cardiovascular setting.
  • Experience in a hospital or acute-care setting.

  • Ability to assess clinical situations, initiate appropriate treatment, interpret laboratory data, respond to emergency situations, and coordinate work schedules for productivity and efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Provide timely pre-procedural workups for cardiovascular patients, including orders, histories and physicals, consent review, and laboratory-test review.
  • Provide post-procedural orders, discharge planning, and patient education.
  • Provide direct care to cardiovascular patients and evaluate patient outcomes.
  • Evaluate closure devices, perform sheath pulls, and assess arteriotomy sites.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests for pre- and post-cardiovascular patients.
  • Train and educate cardiac catheterization laboratory staff, emergency-department and inpatient-unit staff, and community members as needed.
  • Participate in mock codes and cardiac arrests on cardiac units.
  • Participate in review of performance-improvement data and related cardiovascular-patient activities.
  • Assess risks associated with acute and complex chronically ill patients, including medication side effects, immobility, impaired nutrition, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, immunocompetence, invasive interventions, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Order and collect data using evidence-based assessment techniques and relevant diagnostic information and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to diagnose acute and complex chronic conditions.
  • Manage diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
  • Formulate prioritized differential diagnoses.
  • Diagnose complications and order appropriate interventions.
  • Identify expected outcomes and formulate and document plans of care for complex acute and chronic healthcare needs.
  • Use evidence-based practice guidelines and protocols in individualized plans of care.
  • Implement and modify plans of care.
  • Prescribe diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions.
  • Perform advanced procedures consistent with privileges and competency validation.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Facilitate communication with patients, families, and staff to promote continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Document patient progress, plans of care, procedures, acute events, transfers, discharges, and deaths in the medical record.
  • Maintain timely documentation that meets acute-care compliance standards and captures patient acuity.
  • Precept and mentor others and provide education and instruction to graduate students.
  • Engage in research and analysis of evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in Advanced Practice Grand Rounds and specialty-specific meetings.
  • Maintain continuing-education units and membership in a professional organization.
