Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum three years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities with ease.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work full-time hours, including additional hours as necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze and Reconcile Accounts: Monitor and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts—including member transactions, loans, fixed assets, payroll, and more—while resolving complex discrepancies with accuracy and care.
  • Ensure Accurate Classification: Review transactions to ensure correct classification of expenses and appropriate general ledger use, keeping financial records clean and compliant.
  • Safeguard Financial Integrity: Maintain the integrity of accounting data by ensuring completeness, accurate classification, compliance with procedures, and proper documentation.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with employees throughout BECU to ensure accurate transaction recording and resolve accounting or operational concerns—acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Prepare Journal Entries: Create timely, accurate journal entries for daily operations and month-end close activities tied to your assigned accounts.
  • Lead Month-End Reviews: Conduct monthly and annual financial reviews, identifying trends and providing thoughtful analysis and commentary on variances.
  • Support Business Partners: Offer in-depth accounting guidance to business units, helping them navigate issues with detailed analysis, recommendations, and reconciliations.
  • Improve Processes: Assist in designing and improving accounting processes and systems for greater efficiency and effectiveness—including testing and implementation of system upgrades.
  • Support Audits and Reporting: Prepare reports and schedules to support external audits and regulatory reporting, ensuring compliance with state, federal, and local regulations.
  • Drive Process Innovation: Partner with teammates and other departments to identify process improvement opportunities, driving stronger internal controls and greater accuracy.
  • Document Procedures: Ensure all procedures in your areas of responsibility are clearly documented and maintained for consistency and continuity.
  • Contribute to Team Success: Jump in to support additional projects and responsibilities as needed—you’re part of a collaborative team where everyone makes an impact.
