ABOUT THE POSITION
Although we’re an apparel and footwear focused company, technology is central to everything we do. Columbia Sportswear’s Digital Technology (CDT) teams enable an IT infrastructure across four global brands, a global supply chain, and 500+ geographically dispersed stores. These teams support in-store, mobile, and data platforms to enhance customer interface and service in an ever-evolving industry.
As the Principal Data Modeler, you will own the data model/schema in support of CSC’s analytics initiatives. In this role, you will be the owner of the Data & Analytics data assets. You will determine appropriate modeling standards and develop processes to ensure compliance with these patterns. The responsibility of this role will span components in Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse Data Warehouse, and Azure Analysis Services.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Work closely with delivery teams and subject matter experts to deliver data warehousing solutions that are reliable, flexible, scalable, and provide low-cost ownership.
- Participate in the design, development, documentation, and application of best practices and procedures that govern the implementation of data assets.
- Partner with Enterprise Architecture to ensure the data architecture aligns with the company’s overall IT and data strategies
- Partner with Data Governance to enforce governance policies, including data quality, data security, and metadata management
- Provide technical mentoring, guidance, and training to Data and Analytic engineering resources.
YOU ARE
- Able to envision a strategy, communicate and promote, and then dive in to help others achieve the vision
- An excellent communicator that can document and present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
- Highly structured with the ability to organize others around you
- A creative thought leader that is consultative in their approach
YOU HAVE
- 5+ years of experience delivering data centric solutions on warehousing, big data, and cloud platforms
- 3+ years of experience design and tuning a MPP environment
- 3+ years of experience with an Enterprise Reporting Suite (preferred PowerBI, Analysis Services)
- Proficient in data modeling tools (Erwin, ER/Studio, or similar)
- Expert SQL and query optimization techniques
- Expert data modeling (Kimball/Inmon) techniques
