This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing ethical frameworks and policies related to the use of technologies within the online university’s educational programs. This role works collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure that ethical considerations are integrated into all aspects of program experience technology development and deployment, promoting transparency, fairness, accountability, and privacy.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain an ethical framework for the use of technologies in educational settings, in alignment with the university’s mission and values.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement policies and procedures for ethical data collection, usage, and algorithmic decision-making.
- Conduct ongoing risk assessments to identify potential ethical risks associated with the use of program experience technologies and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Engage with stakeholders across the university community to raise awareness of ethical issues related to technology and solicit feedback on proposed solutions.
- Provide education and training to university staff, faculty, and students on ethical considerations related to technology.
- Monitor the implementation of ethical guidelines and policies related to technology and evaluate their effectiveness in promoting ethical behavior and mitigating risks.
- Stay abreast of developments in program experience technology ethics and best practices and incorporate new insights and learnings into the university’s ethical framework and policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Proven ability to design and assess curriculum effectiveness, learning outcomes, and student engagement strategies, particularly within a Competency-based Education model.
- Knowledge of adult learning theories and principles, including instructional design methodologies tailored to adult learners in diverse academic settings.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with academic departments, faculty members, subject matter experts, and instructional designers to develop and deliver high-quality educational programs.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams, manage project timelines, and ensure alignment with departmental goals and objectives.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation to inform program development decisions, assess program efficacy, and identify areas for continuous improvement.
- Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to articulate program objectives, outcomes, and value propositions to internal and external stakeholders.
- Willingness to explore innovative approaches to program development, incorporate emerging technologies, and adapt to evolving trends and student needs in higher education.
Job Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Ethics, Philosophy, Computer Science, or related discipline.
- 3 or more years of experience in a relevant role, with a focus on ethics or technology
- Experience developing and implementing ethical frameworks or policies.
- Experience engaging with stakeholders and facilitating discussions on ethical issues.
- Experience with online learning platforms, learning management systems (LMS), and educational technologies used in online and hybrid learning environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s or doctoral degree in ethics, philosophy, computer science, or a related field.
- Experience working in the field of higher education, particularly in online learning environments.
- Certification or training in educational technology ethics or related areas.
- Experience with project management methodologies and tools.

The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:
