Requirements
  • The ideal candidate will have:
  • A Master's Degree in a field related to biomechanics. Examples: Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Engineering, Analytics, Physical Therapy, etc
  • A demonstrated ability to follow evidence-based processes to analyze performance and drive decision making
  • Training and experience in 3D biomechanical analyses of the baseball swing and pitching
  • Hands on experience working with marker and/or markerless biomechanics data collection, A Master's Degree in a biomechanics related field, including, but not limited to: Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Engineering, Physical Therapy or another closely related field
  • Analysis, interpretation, and reporting
  • Knowledge of, and experience working with, C-Motion's Visual 3D software
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a high-level sports environment (collegiate, professional, etc.)
  • The ability to think creatively and challenge the 'status-quo.'
  • An engaging communication style with the ability to effectively communicate biomechanical insights across a range of stakeholders - from athletes, to coaches, to other performance staff
  • A demonstrated knowledge of anatomy and a working understanding of common injuries in baseball
  • Practical, hands-on experience with biomechanics-related technologies including, but not limited to, IMU's, force plates, and wearables
  • Proficiency in SQL a plus
  • Proficiency in written and oral Spanish a plus
  • Candidate must be comfortable working in hot outdoor conditions
  • Candidate must be able to move and lift equipment up to 50 lbs
Responsibilities
  • Work with biomechanics staff to expand the integration of biomechanics, with an emphasis on hitting biomechanics, across the Minor League affiliates and coordinate the delivery of applied findings to key stakeholders throughout the Red Sox organization (e.g., coaches, players, performance staff, front office, etc.)
  • Interpret, review and monitor hitting and pitching biomechanics data to gain insights that will enhance player health and/or performance, and contribute to the development of player-specific performance plans
  • Assist in the creation of automated, player-specific biomechanics reports that provide digestible and applicable information
  • Assist in the evaluation and integration of current and new biomechanics technology. Stay abreast of biomechanics research and advances to facilitate innovation as well as the implementation of best practices
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Red Sox Biomechanics and Analytics staff, as well as other members of the Sport Performance team (e.g., medical, sport science, strength and conditioning) and contribute to the development of multi-disciplinary projects intended to optimize player development and health
  • Build and maintain relationships with other departments within the Sport Performance team (medical, strength, nutrition, sport science, mental skills, analytics) to understand the health and performance questions faced by these groups and develop solutions to address them
  • This is a Ft. Myers, FL based position, but the expectation is the Biomechanist will provide in-person biomechanics support to the Boston Red Sox minor league FCL, A, A+ affiliate programs in Ft. Myers, FL, Salem, VA and Greenville, SC, respectively
