Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program or equivalent program meeting American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography standards.
  • Knowledge of routine ultrasound procedures and demonstrated competency in performing department-relevant ultrasound examinations.
  • Registration through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
  • A current Basic Life Support/Healthcare Provider certificate.
  • A current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography physics registry and at least one American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography registry.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with radiologists to perform diagnostic sonographic examinations.
  • Use professional judgment while performing services and maintain conduct consistent with quality patient care.
  • Provide appropriate care, recognize patient conditions, and ensure successful completion of procedures.
  • Comply with state and federal regulations applicable to each imaging modality.
  • Assess patients’ physical conditions and age-specific needs.
  • Provide instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
  • Perform proper patient identification, obtain clinical histories, and ensure information is accurately documented.
  • Position patients, equipment, and associated devices, and manipulate technical factors to produce high-quality images for interpretation.
  • Assess diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring all relevant anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Comply with quality-control standards and participate in quality-control tasks.
  • Administer medical aid as required during emergency situations.
  • Apply standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Assist with supervising student sonographers and training new sonographers.
  • Use corporate radiology computer systems effectively and accurately.
  • Ensure the safety of all customers.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with organizational policies and applicable standards.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies, department guidelines, and educational requirements.
