Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Practical Nurse program with six months of patient care experience is required.
  • Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the state of South Carolina or a compact state is required.
  • A current cardiopulmonary resuscitation card is required, specifically an American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers card or an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer card.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • The ability to demonstrate commitment to a patient-centered care philosophy through effective communication skills, professional demeanor, and interpersonal skills is required.
  • The ability and motivation to articulate and support the departmental philosophy of excellent guest relations is required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication is required.
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • The ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required is required.
  • The ability to work in a latex-safe environment is required.
  • The ability to be physically qualified for respirator use, initially and as required, is required for selected positions.
Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized, goal-directed patient care to patients and families at the competent level using the principles and practices of the nursing process.
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care while supporting patients and families in managing their health care and respecting their culture, values, individual needs, health goals, and treatment preferences.
  • Apply critical reasoning and clinical judgment to expedite appropriate care and treatment, particularly for patients with complex or potentially life-threatening conditions.
  • Use critical thinking in clinical problem-solving within the scope of practice, knowledge, competency, and experience.
  • Assist medical staff with patient preparation, examinations, and procedures.
  • Interview and screen patients to obtain personal data and chief complaints.
  • Document patient information and findings accurately and consistently in accordance with approved policies and procedures.
  • Perform telephone and in-person screenings.
  • Record and report patient-care information and document findings relevant to patients' health-care status or plan of care.
  • Prioritize and document incoming patient phone calls regarding medications and medical conditions, and review them with providers as needed for orders or changes.
  • Clean and stock examination rooms and other supply areas.
  • Document all delivered patient care in the medical record according to medical center policy.
